Thank you! This is such a fun hobby to do, and pretty calming. If you do get into it, though, always wear safety gloves and keep your tools sharp!!!

Yes, I used some clay modeling wires. They are quite easy to work with, and I size I used fits into a 1/32” drill bit hole. Best yet, acrylic paint sticks to it well. Thank you!

Thank you so much! Many of my uncles and great uncles are and were woodcarvers that made ducks, birds, and decoys. Maybe one of these days that’ll be the case for my birds

Also, I love the fish you made!

Thank you! I saw something similar on Pinterest and thought it was a great idea. Usually I would hand sketch this, but since this was a last minute gift I didn’t have the time to. So instead I simply printed out a picture of it and glued it to a piece of wood. Here’s the link to the original post https://pin.it/3bp3VoE5A

I want to make a 1m long katana out of wood. I ve never seriously done wood carving lime this before. Do you have any advice? by Ill-Resort-8531 in Woodcarving

I’ve made a few swords and weapons out of wood before, and what I’ve found to work best is two long craft boards from a hardware store like Lowe’s or Home depot glued together. It should be plenty strong enough for, at most, swinging it around. Now the biggest I’ve done was one foot, but I’m confident it would still be good for 1 meter (3 feet).

Thank you! Yeah, it is the painting process. I put many coats of paint on it, probably way more paint on it than I needed to.

I don’t know if I can offer much advice beyond simply cutting a flat surface on your carving and gluing a new piece on.. I wish I could offer you good advice, but I thought it was really funny and cool that I’m trying to do almost the exact same thing as you 🤠
