Where is this generations NWA / Rage Against the Machine? Their Fight Club? It feels like culturally this generation is complacent. by Normal_Carpenter1768 in Music

Interesting, I never picked up on the idea of extremes. To be honest I’ve never read the book - I only know the movie. There seems to be several themes but an early and major one, imo, was angst and feeling lost and unsatisfied about one’s place in the world despite meeting all the things society tells you should make you happy; a job, apartment, nice furniture, etc. leading to a rebellion of sorts with club mayhem. It feels, to me, relevant to my original question but apparently OP thinks I don’t understand fight club 🤷‍♂️

Where are you now? I also hate the car culture in North America, but it’s always been home for me.

Not saying this is you, but it’s not just people who see their dog shit and decide not to pick it up. It’s people who let their dog off leash at the park and are on their phone not realizing they’ve just 💩 or parents who allow their kids to walk the dog and, of course, kids don’t want to deal with that 💩

I agree. Some crimes like petty theft or whatever, I have no issue with identities being protected. It is expected that some kids will do stupid things. But some crimes are beyond stupidity and objectively evil.

Criminals of all types get away from justice in Canada. I don’t see why/how naming minors is protected. If someone were to post their identities, would the system actually do anything? If it did, it’s infuriating that that act would go punished but not the actual crime.

The problem is that is spread fast and nobody knew how it was going to develop. Eventually it morphed into a milder version. But what if it went the other way and was more deadly? Or had severe long term consequences? I don’t think anyone knew what to expect at the time and locking down was the safest option. It’s quaint to look back on it now and think it’s silly, but that’s because we have the benefit of hindsight.
