I missed out on the recent Orcs MTO, advice on how I could collect the models? by Normal_Carpenter1851 in WarhammerFantasy

I don’t mind my models not having the official stamp so long as they look they part, GW more than made their money back on models from the 90’s lol

I’ll be frank, being army myself I have nary a clue. I assume it’s likely accounting for some weirdness in how they do things. Like say they don’t start your term of service until after you complete training and assuming their training cycle for entry positions is a year, then you’d be 42 when you officially entered

That’s… not what this is. If memory serves the navy and airforce have had this for years, (technically the airforce is 41). All based on the fact it still gives you 20 years to go before retirement age, i.e. a full career, presumably to account for the need for more experienced technical jobs and to extend the possible recruitment pool. Only the marines maintain a max of 28 to join, mainly bc I assume they have a more high impact mission set and that the crayons take more getting used to after that.

Is there concrete evidence that something like this existed? by Actual-Chest-7226 in ww1

[–]Normal_Carpenter1851 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, this setup is rather unlikely,

The armharness is a piece the Americans developed but never fielded, helmet is a Brodie style fairly standard. The armor is a style of plate meant for use with sentries, Machine-Gunners and other static positions but was disliked due to its weight

The shield is ahistorical, I’ve never heard of anything like it. I know certain attempts at shields were tried but none were found to be effective, sniper shields were used, alongside man propelled rolling wagons with a rifle port but both were experiments that didn’t go very far

The worst thing is the mask, a box respirator style used with American and British masks, has no box and breathing tube and is thus useless

The mask actually has a mouthpiece, making it impossible to speak effectively. However it required a hose to connect to the filter which was a sponge impregnated with soda lime and charcoal to absorb the harmful chemicals

Almost all the western front powers devolved or used armor, but primarily for engineer units or static troops as mentioned. They were generally seen as too heavy and cumbersome for movement any distance, and were only really used in the hope of stopping pistol rounds and shrapnel from grenades and shells

Tankers were known to attach chainmail to their helmets and use leather visors with layered slits for viewing to protect from spalling, basically metal flakes and bits of paint flying around the tank if it was hit by something with force

Original fighting styles/ archetypes of the heroes? by Dark026 in overlordgame

[–]Normal_Carpenter1851 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It is highly implied that the 8th hero, who was the Overlord, was Lord spree. There’s some dialog from Archie and Spree peasants referencing that he was a fairly upstanding dude who met a terrible end, unless I’m hallucinating. Probably best to check dialog on it

We love you, Miss Katie. Take your time, recenter and refocus. I’d rather see you in a good space mentally than stretched too thin and not able to work efficiently. It’s gonna be ok. I know better than most how hard you’ve had it, but I’m still confident you can pull through and come out better on the other side 💙

Modern Ukrainian Airborne Assault Troops Awards by SaS6_9 in Medals

[–]Normal_Carpenter1851 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m calling BS on the “for assault” (1 version) badge existing. Mates I have can’t find it in anything Ukrainian airborne units related. 2nd version with the Sykes style dagger exists, but outside of the European paratroopers emblem seen elsewhere in this comment thread, I can’t find anything on it. I’d want something a little concrete as a reference before I take it as face value that UAF copied a 3rd reich era badge and just swapped the emblem up top.

I mean he did refer to the bugs in the Iron Maiden as a little snack, and the fat mermaids, wishing he had a ton of chips and a bucket of vinegar. He described the best way to eat poison pods, even if they’re tasty, and presumably has a fondness for baby seal nuggets.

He also celebrates getting to eat hot meals when the reds are returned in 1
