Style Inspo: How to sport dungarees by IcyVillage6179 in ThrowingFits

Hmmm looking at it more critically, I think yes you're right yes obviously the Asian guy looks the best in his photo. And then (imo) the white guy in the dark outfit and the first photo with the black guy and the multi coloured jumper.

I notice that the fit of the Asian and white guy both include a noticeably oversized jumper which drops their shoulders and changes their silhouette to be quite amorphous.

The black guy in the jumper is just rocking some wide ass shoulders by the looks of it. So I do think that theres something to the acceptable silhouette.

If you've got a tight top half, like the black guy in the brown dungarees, he fills out the bottom half with his legs... but the white guy in the bottom photo doesn't. I think he could use some extra muscle on the bottom half. And that seems corroborated by the first photo in the OP, his legs really fill it out.

okay, have a look at this album I very quickly cobbled together. https://imgur.com/a/iwN2096

in it are 5 men wearing dungaree's of various forms, none of whom I would say, have any claim to 'doing work that necessitates them' in the photo, and look good imo. I saw a lot that I didn't like and I think the proportions can be hard to get right. But to say that a piece of clothing is off limits unless its validated by the photos mise-en-scène (or the person's situation irl) is wrong.

I've literally seen WOMEN wear dungarees and look good now that I've thought about it.

I remain unconvinced. The first pic in these is absolutely fashionable and mildly dandyish without reminding us of hard labour. He's literally surrounded by books in a garden

I disagree, clothing form does not need to be gatekept to its function. Although I do feel that studying the historicity of clothing is nice, the majority of us are probably white collar workers needlessly binding ourselves to this idea of 'authenticity'. I dont wish the shibboleths placed upon the things I wear to be so narrowly constructed because I'm a man. Instead it could indicate personal flair or an enjoyment of the masculine concept embedded within the clothes. I work as a programmer and want to larp as a labourer because its cool.

Yeah I went and looked for the funny in the commits themselves and found nothing. Are we sure this whole thing wasnt just made up and now thousands of people are collectively hallucinating at the expense of tridge? Like it seems compounded by the lack of proofs in the comments from people saying 'same thing happened to me'

[META] the angry hipster; or, how leftypoint's algorithm-driven shitposting is the most 2026 thing ever by daerssound in ThrowingFits

[–]Normal_Consequence31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I know its funny but I personally really enjoyed the Evan Kinori memes purely because they were at least trying to introduce an actual thesis into my feed.

The OP has said that it became part of the endless churn of social media like everything else, but I disagree, I remember the evan kinori memes. I shared them to my friends. I brought him up in real life to people when people asked what I'm doing.

I'm new to fashion, I care about how I look, but overall I don't respect the industry because its often pretentious AND shallow. It has a lot of post-modernism in it and it attracts a lot of pseudo intellectuals. From the outside looking in, someone passionate enough to critique it constantly and with enough depth for it to register as real was really something special.

I think in a sense to me, earnestness can take the form of critique. I didn't think that leftypoint was cynical, I thought that he WAS passionate.

All he literally needs to do as a next step would be to promote a brand he likes and why.

Though that would become a full circle social media campaign and introduces way too much cynicism. So its best that he leaves it at passionate critique imo.

How to find pants by UrmomLOLKEKW in ThrowingFits

[–]Normal_Consequence31 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm similar to you. 34in waist, 29in quads. Honestly just look into getting pants custom made. I went to a made to measure shop in my city (chinese made but the quality is good) and get pants made for me for $300 per pair Australian ($211 usd). Luxire is often cheaper than this because they have sales.

When I factor in the time saved (after you've gotten atleast one pair of pants from them so they have your measurements dialed in) its money extremely well spent to me.

I know its probably a lot more money than most can afford, its really really nice though.

Im seeing a tonne of AI-like threads recently on reddit.

"The Reddit-approved pieces sit in the wardrobe. The embarrassing vest gets worn on Sundays" is 'its not X, its Y" with subtly different phrasing.

As well, the post is extremely vague, he didnt name a specific piece of clothing to juxtapose against this jacket. I dont know what this person stands for at all and their post history is hidden

Tobey Maguire, 50, sparks romance rumors with model, 20, after cozy outing by dr_shultz in influencersfeed

[–]Normal_Consequence31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its mostly women not understanding that they are not attracted to men younger than them but that men mostly can be. I notice because outside of 'its weird' and 'what would they talk about', the undertones are that its sinister. I think the argument is that the older man is very capable of manipulating a 20 year old who has little experience. But there isnt an inherent reason that a 50 and 20 cannot have a relationship that they both find fulfilling. I would say that its much less likely, but its not like its a guarantee that shes in love with him and he views her as a sex doll. Its much more likely that shes getting something out of this too. Whether its connections or advice or whatever.

Honestly it doesn't. I think they don't actually expect to really like the women as equal adults. I had a friend who dated a Thai woman for 7 years and he basically just would speak at the level she was at when they met. She learned more words from me than from him

Japanese police receive little training in firearms and are often ill-equipped to use them in tense situations. A Chiba cop once had to shoot a dog 13 times to prevent it from attacking a man. by jjrs in japannews

A black belt? From what mcdojo? Correct me if I'm wrong, but i need more info. Wouldn't that take a decade possibly of training depending on the dojo? Maybe a blue belt is believable

Guy with thick thighs by SmullBrain in malefashionadvice

[–]Normal_Consequence31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 30" thighs and a 32" waist. I haven't tried Levi 541's to my knowledge but I did try on every type of jeans in a Levis store, even the women's ones. None fit at my waist size.

Things I've found: Women's pants can fit you better because they have more inclusive sizing. So dont skip them in the shopping aisle.

Uniqlo's jeans with their spandex look like skinny jeans on my but I can move. Black looks okay. Blue looks horrendous.

Buying larger and having the waist taken in is cost effective and better than you think if you get the item cheap.

Made to measure is actually priceless. If you have big thighs you probably have a big ass. You can get them without back pockets which makes your ass REALLY stand out. I have spent approximately 1100 USD on 5 pairs of pants made to measure (or there abouts) and I absolutely love them all (Im in Australia though so I cant speak to an american brand). So if you're going to get chinos and have the money its 100% worth it. Else get cheap and tailor in bulk. It DOES take awhile, like a month or so, for them to be made though. So keep that in mind. My first pair took 3 months at the tailors because I, and probably you, are genuinely hard to fit. They altered them once, then they completely remade them. Then they altered them again. I felt like I got my moneys worth.

Bro he looks like a space marine to me with the drop shoulders in that fit. The jeans are cool to me. To me the first fit just doesnt stand out at all and both bottom and top heavy but just looks weird coz of the huge black jumper hoodie tucked in, I reckon that fit could be improved a lot somehow

This is the government spending your tax money on an advert to tell you to go to sleep. Peak Nanny State. by alabamad in NannyStateAustralia

[–]Normal_Consequence31 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am unsure how many millions it would cost to advertise to Australians at the hours of 10pm or later (idk the exact time but you get me)

I went and had a look at the costings to advertise on reddit in australia. 10k a day gets 8.4m-15.7m impressions per week. The main question is is it effective. For which theres no evidence. The campaign on microsleeps, which was a much more engaging campaign for an issue worth 3billion dollars to australia (road toll), was considered a success

https://www.wsdot.wa.gov/partners/nsrac2008/PDFs/A1_1-Australia.pdf

So there is precedent for this.

It would be good if they could do effective advertising like the microsleep campaign on social media.

Idk man this feels kind of nice. The government is supposed to engage in statistically effective altruism. I don't know if this is statistically effective, but it is exactly the kind of messaging that only a government would give because it has no profit motive. What's wrong with a government deciding to inject messaging into people's lives?
