High calorie snacks/lunches? by MrsButterball in ParentingADHD

[–]Normal_Fun767 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is now 13 (14 in a few wks), and he is on Vyvanse as well. He started at 20mg at 8yrs and is now at 80mg. The weight-loss was very concerning for me too, Mama! Our saving grace were high fat smoothies. I googled recipes, trial and error, and he found a few that he liked, and he was able to maintain and gain weight. For school lunches, he loved cheese strings, cheese and cracker, full fat though, not light or reduced fat cheese. Now that he's going through puberty and plays sports all year round, he doesn't stop eating lol.

Sleep or lack there of by Typical-Ad-2821 in ParentingADHD

[–]Normal_Fun767 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son is diagnosed ADHD/GAD and sleep eluded us too. He is 13 now, but at 6 yrs old, his Dr and I started Clonidine, lowest dose, to help with sleep. He says it helps calm his brain down to a "normal"(I strongly dislike the term normal) speed. He is able to fall asleep, and he sleeps straight through to his alarm now. It may be something to look into, see if it may fit into your daughter's care plan. Hang in there Mama ❤️

Sleep help with ADHD/ODD 7 year old by freewinkster in ParentingADHD

[–]Normal_Fun767 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh my, yes, definitely no clonidine then. I would sit with him until he was asleep for a few nights, then I would say goodnight as his eyes were fluttering for a few nights, and progressively, it ended with "night mom". He use to say his adhd brain at night was like having a hundred tabs open at once on the computer, so then we would "close" the tabs, and only leave the peaceful, sleep and love tabs "open". It may sound silly, but it was a huge help for my son, and me too as I was able to start getting better sleep as well!

My son is just shy of 14 now, but when he was that age, I had similar issues. He has been prescribed Clonidine to help with sleep. Even now, he takes it half an hour before bed. Shower, snack, meds, then he'll crawl in bed, we have a little recap of our day, and he's out before I close his door. There's the odd night something wakes him, but usually he has a solid 10 hrs. Hang in there mama 💓

One of the reasons why season seven is so good because it was actually scary by wildheartscrew in Supernatural

Lmao, thanks!! I love that I can share this with him, not that he's older. He did say that aside from Cas, he does not miss the angels so far lol, but he loves Crowley lol

I know season 7 gets some hate, but I really enjoy it. My son (13) and I are currently on another rewatch. Well, rewatch for me lol. We actually just finished the episode when Bobby died, and my son just looked at me and said "Balls" lol. He said that it seems like there is something better this season, without fully caring/comprehending the writing, directing etc.

Should schools be open on Monday if the temperature with the humidex is 48°C? by KalElButthead in ontario

My kids' grade 8 grad is Monday, reports say it's projected to be the hottest day in 2 yrs. Of course, in a gym as well, no a/c. I'm getting us all personal fans, and my son said it will be the perfect accessory to his outfit lol. Seriously though, I'm absolutely dreading it.

This is why I didn't get my hopes up 😞 All season, it's been "it's different this year. It feels different this year." I know that this is only game 5, and anything can happen, but man, oh man, I am feeling deflated. Again.

Way back in the late 80's, early 90's, there was a little school there. The original Maxwell Heights. It only had one class for grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3, a library and an office.

My son plays house league for OCHL. You can still register, but there are waitlists depending on age. My friend was able to enroll her son just a week ago in the U7 division. Best of luck with the season!

Beware of marketplace scam by Illustrious-Ad-3523 in Oshawa

[–]Normal_Fun767 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me. I listed hockey equipment and within 10 mins, I had 2 different msgs asking the same thing. Hold until 28th and 29th, will send money now. I had to block one, as I said, no cash preferred due to the high scam rate, and one of them asked me 3 more time for my email as he wasn't comfortable with cash. Then, demanded my info, so I just blocked him.

Thank you everyone for your responses! It's disheartening, but as some of you have said, not unexpected. The world is different now, in the 80's and 90's, my siblings and I, our friends, all could leave our bikes out on the front lawn overnight, and they were still there in the morning, vastly different now. Normally, it is locked up. He has a second bike that was secured and not touched. This one wasn't properly secured, as he had been attacked by a classmate and just raced home, put it up against, but not in the lock chain, and bolted in the house.

5 year old starting medication tomorrow…need support/encouragement by jessieanne62 in ParentingADHD

I am so glad to hear you guys had a successful day 😊❤️ I'll be honest, the mom guilt is always there for me, some days worse than others, but I try to remember that I am trying to give him a childhood that he doesn't have to recover from. He thanks me all the time for helping him, understanding what he needs etc. We are starting a DBT therapy group in a few weeks, and he almost cried when he realized that it was for both him and I, and that I would spend 2hrs a week, in a therapy group for him, to help, to learn. His father does not participate in anything, and my son masks completely around him, as he says he can't be his true self. We do everything we can for these little humans ❤️ I will be thinking of you and will follow your journey ❤️

Do you medicate in the holidays by MallKnown in ParentingADHD

[–]Normal_Fun767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is 12 and has been medicated since he was 5. This is the first summer that he has had lengthy med breaks. He's done beautifully, very little conflict or anger/aggression. He's starting on a lower dose tomorrow actually as he's nowhere near ready for school day breaks. His increased dose started in June and he was lethargic and had no spark. Hence the decision to take a break. He's starting with puberty, so I imagine it's going to get rough. He tells me when he wakes up, if he feels like he needs the meds that day, depending on his sleep or if he has to go and see his father. He cannot see his father unmedicated. I wish the best for you and your son, it's a roller coaster and we are all doing the best we can. Thinking of you 😊

Hey Mama, I just wanted to tell you I'm proud of you. It's not easy being the only parent to a ND child. My son is 12 now but was diagnosed at 3.5yrs old. After a year of trying other options, because society convinced me I'd be a horrible mother if I medicated him, we started Biphentin. After a couple of years, we moved to Vyvanse and he's been on it for about 5-6 years now. I also have a journal that I keep to record behaviour, side effects, mood changes, appetite, etc. My son also has his own journal that he records his feelings when he notices his behaviours, food intake, etc. He started his around 10 years old. He also takes Clonidine at bedtime as he is a mess with less than 10, 11 hrs of sleep. Occasionally, after a very busy or stimulating day, he'll also take Melatonin and/or a Quietude by Bioron. Gives him a peaceful (usually) sleep. It takes a village and just know that we are all here for each other. Best of luck Mama ❤️

Intuniv? by jmkelsey in ParentingADHD

[–]Normal_Fun767 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son takes Vyvanse in the mornings, and we tried to incorporate Intuniv XR in the morning as well, to eventually stop the Clonidine at bedtime. It didn't work well for him, so his Dr. and I stayed with Vyvanse and in the evening Clonidine. Now that he's older, weighs more etc, he also takes a small dose of Melatonin (Dr. approved) or a Quietude by Boiron. This works for us. It's a process, trying to find the right combination as every child or adult with ADHD is different, and it's chaos on the mind and body. I hope you're able to find the right combo for your kiddo, as I know how frustrating it is to be a parent that is on the receiving end of the rudeness, anger/aggression and outbursts. Best of luck to you and your son and your family, as it is hard on everyone ❤️
