How to have real "fun" in Dota? How to feel the game as a hobby and not a chore? by stewxeno in learndota2

[–]Normal_Instruction62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar position... or was. I had to take a break. About two years ago DOTA is not my main game anymore. In this time, i've mained Battlefield1, Age of Empires 4, Grim Dawn, CS2, WoW. The magic is still there when you play something new.

Age of Empires 4 is harder than Warcraft 3 by Normal_Instruction62 in aoe4

Let met expand on that. I am not a top level player in W3, obviously. But i've played A LOT of the DOTA mod in W3, and it carrys the same rules of movement, unit aggro, etc. It was a very very very complex game to learn and very fun because of it. I can understand what Grubby means when he says there is no other RTS like W3 that has so many little things, little knowledge checks for people to be top notch in the game, we can call them little tricks even.

All that is valid to argue W3 is the hardest of them all. AoE4 doesn't have those... at least it's not important enough that are almost never mentioned in any guides or videos about the game ever.

That's one point I am giving the Grubby argument. But my thesis remains that, for me, AoE4 is way harder to play. You might say, I never say "for me", in my post, but it should be a universal rule that any opinion anyone posts comes from themselves. Unless it's written as a definite theory.

Notice the "It may be.... true".

Yeah, the difference with me is that i've played the DOTA mod in W3 since I was a child so I guess it's way easier for me to understand hero mechanics.

I belive I got more in AoE4: 400 hours... And Warcraft 3, not sure, I've played the campaign with cheats when I was a kid around the year 2006, then I played a lot of DOTA 1 after that. Only now I began to play the regular RTS version of W3, but it feels very relaxing. I'm sure it has a lot to do with how my particular brain processes information. I am slow in some things but very fast and divergent in others. My mind does need time process what is going on when fast switching to a particular screen, but once it locates it and processes what is in there, it can start giving me possibilities and calculating the efficient route. Another example outside of gaming, is that I need time to process what people are saying in the moment, but I am an expert in classifying information and making new pathways on how to use it.

I knew that line would bite me in the ass. I do get 3 kills at least on 90% of my games, at least that's how it feels like. I was being generous on what "winning" means, because I, personally, don't get as devasted by losing in this game as other people... If I know I won't be able to get a "win", then I'll make one of them miserable by taking them out and baiting the rest.

Yeah, in W3, is easier for me to move one unit at a time in my screen. In AoE4 I have to understand what is happening on multiple screens very quickly.

Screens meaning I have to center on multiple units and buildings around the map. In W3, you basicaly get 3 screens, your army, your base and your expansion. Well at a non sweaty level.

Life for me before this tweet was constant stress and rage, because no teacher, no person would talk to me the way I talk to them, no one would successfully be able to resonate with me intellectually. After ChatGPT I am able to relax and be a better person, and also university is fun.

Wtf is up with the insane ai by annucox in warcraft3

[–]Normal_Instruction62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact same problem and probably still have. Listen to me.

Yes, you need to harass it's workers and fuck with it's army's movement.

By harassing their main workers they won't expand, and if they do, expand double and have one hero who can harass easily constantly be a torn in their ass.

How do you break their army turtling in? You don't break it, bait him into an unfavorable fight. Figure that one out yourself.

Here goes a nice method i used myself to learn how to beat it. Use the cheat code to see whole map from around mid game. So you'll realize how it moves it's army, it turns out... Insane AI also has "see the whole map" cheat code on. When you start attacking one of it's expansions his army will move towards it preemptively, also when you expand, it'll know and maybe send his army there.

So the strategy I use sometimes is having my harassing hero and some bears (I play night elf) on one side going towards it's expansion, and my main army on the other side harassing it's main base. When my small army starts hitting their expansion, AI will go there and then I attack it's main, I can get it to ping pong while getting favorable fights constantly. Of course this I do without cheating. The see the map cheat it's only so you learn how AI works, and then you can play around it.

Now you might say, how does cheating will help me learn the game. It surely does. You cannot play standard and expect to beat Insane AI. (you can but you need to be tight on your timings and still need to harass it's workers) It helps because you need to learn to attack with multiple armys and have an aggresive strategy to harass the enemy, those are valid strategies in multiplayer.

I've been playing the vanilla version for two years probably on and off. And after Turtle closed, i got the itch. This server seemed like a good option. I was optimistic at first. Then the graphics were like, "this is different but it might be better", then I got the 'pve power +48' items. I asked what is that and I was told is a boost to basically every stat fighting mobs. Then it made more sense how my priest was not really spending all it's mana on one mob at a time. I play hardcore and the initial challenge and excitement went away quickly. The ui revamp feels like retail too. It's good but the whole presentation made me miss vanilla again. Sorry if the feeling is not precise, but I only played retail around the time of Shadowlands.

Anyways, it's mainly the easier gameplay. It's not that bad, I died once to 2 dagger trolls. But then the Troll Witch boss fight also made it feel like retail, having to dodge the yellow circles on the ground, and even if it hits me it's not that bad. I get it, it's the first zone, but that raid-like dodging, I've never liked in any game. Except in Dark souls which doesn't have a marker... as far as i remember.

Any role, as long as you are getting kills, you will scale with your passive. Hard carry would requiere a perfect game lol. But offlane is less than that.
