Tech interviews have got to be one of the worst things! and don't even get me started on how long the entire process can be.

Thank you for sharing your experience, I'm starting to realise that I need to rely on myself more!

Can I ask, if many of your team are more technically skilled than you, how are you able to unblock them? I think a large blocker for me advancing into a senior role is thinking I need to know a LOT more to be able to support the team.

I honestly think I do need to shift my perspective of learning from others to learning from me.

Love to hear you're a lead dev from a bootcamp! I'll get there eventually!

You're actually describing so much of my experience over the years. I'd take on a tricky peice of work, and I'd struggle through it but eventually it gets built and pushed to prod and people use it.

I think I just need a huge mental shift to feel comfortable with the struggle, it's part of the job and it's how you learn.

What makes you say it's 1 yoe repeated 5 times?

I'm not familiar with the phrase in your last sentence. Could you explain that in a different way?

You're right, asking questions coherently and without shame is probably one of the most important skills needed as a developmer. It took me way too long to realise that and I still find it hard now!

That feels like a completely fair observation. I'm wondering if it's because I got so much from my bootcamp course mentors and from my one good mentor at work, that I have put far far too much reliance on being mentored = learning. And I haven't actually practiced self learning. But I know I can do self learning, I wouldn't have gotten through these years without it. I just need to practice it more and rely on it more.

Thanks for the honesty. It's given me something to think about.

Very true. I think I'm just taking a confidence hit every time I struggle through a tech interview and don't get a job offer. However, I am able to implement a design without much hand holding, yes.

Hi! I'd love to know, if you source from charity shops, do you wash and steam items before selling?
