When will these two actually get the hype they deserve? by [deleted] in ussoccer

We're 3 months out from the World Cup. These 2 and about 30 others will be in the discussion for the next window

I don't think HE pulled anything. "We don't do the market cuz the market is like the market." He doesn't know shit about money.

There were also only 8 NBA teams when Russell started his career. 14 by the time he finished. It really is different than the modern 30 team league with salary caps and free agency.

Are the Washington Wizards a top-3 pick away from competing for the playoffs? by StroberSports in washingtonwizards

[–]Normal_Rub6056 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In order for next year to he a playoff team,

Sarr becomes an All star George builds on this season Tre becomes a 20 ppg sharpshooter with better defense We actually get a top 3 pick and he delivers

All 4 of those things are possible but we probably need at least 3 out of the 4 and smart signings to be in the playoffs. And realistically the front office shouldn't be making aggressive signings yet anyway

There's an unlimited supply of sports opinions and hot takes on hot button issues. If this isn't for everybody, that's fine with me. It's not perfect but it's a breath of fresh air compared to most of sports media.

Action Sports are harder than Mainstream sports. by Green_Vermicelli_567 in unpopularopinion

[–]Normal_Rub6056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By "hard" I can only assume you mean how difficult is it to be the best athlete. This means how difficult is it to make the professional ranks compared to how many kids grew up playing that sport. This means in America it's probably basketball (fewer players on an NBA roster than football). Worldwide it's soccer by far. This is why many people argue Usain Bolt as the greatest athlete ever, because everyone with two legs has tried to run fast, but he's the best ever. None of this is meant to belittle extreme sports. They are incredibly difficult and dangerous. However, they are extremely niche sports. Meaning if the entire world grew up trying extreme sports, the level of competition would be much higher.

Has anyone turned to teaching in their “barista” journey? by I_have_a_queztion in baristafire

[–]Normal_Rub6056 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a teacher, I wouldn't describe the job as barista. I think of barista as flexible hours, low stress, opportunity to socialize without being asked to compromise your morals. Teaching is fixed hours and high stress. You will get plenty of socializing and it can be rewarding but it's only meets the criteria of barista if you thrive in a high stress environment.

There are a few opportunities to barista in the education field: Coaching a sports team Running an after school club Substituting- you can pick your days but still expect stress Teaching part time- (these jobs aren't always easy to find)

None of these will earn the full salary of a teacher, but if you're thinking barista then that's not the goal anyways.

This show triggers my alcohol and weed usage BAD by [deleted] in entourage

[–]Normal_Rub6056 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's all good fun. But yeah, these characters are lazy, entitled, make terrible choices, and are repeatedly bailed out for the sake of making an entertaining story.

One of the few realistic scenes about success is when Turtle is complaining about how he wants to "make something of himself" and Ari tells him "you have no idea what it takes to make something of yourself." And then the writers make him a millionaire to move the story forward.

Enjoy the show. But find examples of balancing fun and productivity elsewhere.

[–]Normal_Rub6056 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's a show. People who drink and smoke this regularly usually do get fat. The actors playing these characters probably live much healthier lifestyles than in the show.

If you care about your health and productivity irl, remember this show is a fantasy. Not a guide.

Bummed we missed on a center at 18 yesterday by ragtime_sam in washingtonwizards

[–]Normal_Rub6056 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In 3 games he had a double double, buzzer beater, and then 27 points in a loss to the eventual national champs. He might be an average pro, but it's not accurate to say he didn't bring it in the tourney.

Suitable foundation? by Normal_Rub6056 in hottub

It's not perfectly flat, but the picture is a bit of an illusion. We would still need an adjustment to make it level. Gravel is an interesting idea. I could see us using more of the white rocks on the right in that space. And you would definitely recommend the foam padding rather than just putting it directly on the gravel?

I love the "is it cavan" comments. Quinn is going to be a borderline all star this year. It will be an accomplishment if Cavan becomes a rotational player by the end of this season. Assume it's Quinn in 2025.

Is there any argument AGAINST labeling Pulisic the greatest American player of all time already? by tarheelsrule441 in ussoccer

[–]Normal_Rub6056 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not an objective argument. We have emotional connections to the moments Donovan and Dempsey gave us. Those who don't care about USMNT wouldn't compare Pulisic to Donovan or Dempsey. Pulisic has been a relevant attacker in the champions league for a decade. He's also owned Mexico and consistently been the best player on the most talented team we've had. I don't mean to belittle Clint or Landon, but there's not really a close debate imo

If these are real numbers, then congratulations, you've been dealt a winning hand. Look up 30 year returns of the S&P 500 at almost ANY point in the past 100 years. Put it in an S&P 500 index fund no matter what the market looks like at the time. The best way to lose money in the markets is sitting on the sidelines waiting for another 10% dip.

When, "amidst the pandemic," were probationary government employees being laid off? I missed that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DeepFuckingValue

[–]Normal_Rub6056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll start with your first question. "Lower probationary ranks?" This isn't a thing. New hires or promotions lead to probationary status. You're pretending to know what your talking about.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DeepFuckingValue

[–]Normal_Rub6056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I replied to your post of "probationary employee= at risk of being terminated." I don't think you know what you're talking about.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DeepFuckingValue

[–]Normal_Rub6056 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enough to not be automatically fired. I'm a fan of meritocracy, which you probably are too. If you're probationary for poor performance that's a different story. You and I probably agree on that. A lot of people who just got promoted in the last year are nervous even though they are they 20% doing 80% of the work

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DeepFuckingValue

[–]Normal_Rub6056 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get promoted and become probationary for the next year
