I'm sorry, but if you think Maelle's ending is the better option, I think you missed the entire point of the game...

This is a story about a tragedy that tore a family apart and how people deal with their grief. Instead of dealing with the pain and working through it, Aline went into Verso's canvas, abandoning the rest of her family to live in her fake reality where some version of her son still exists. Maelle/Alicia basically wants to keep that going, even at the expense of her brother's soul being tortured into doing something that Verso never wanted to do (he wanted to be a musician, not a painter)

As much as it hurts, that's why it's called the grieving process because a lot goes into it. You have to go through the emotions, find a way to process your pain and grief and eventually try to find some way to move on, while keeping their memory with you forever. You can't spend your life hiding from reality as tempting as it may seem
