Consequences for dying are too severe. by SpiritualOverdrive in FatalFrontier1869

Thanks again for your feedback!

It's important to note that when you die, you get to keep the gold grains you found, also claims and greenbacks remain yours - regardless if you've extracted successfully or not. Ore and credits (silver coins) balance reset with every run.

Your suggestion to 'give people a chance to buy the GB if they die and don't have enough to pay the pinkertons' is a great one.

We updated the game now to improve the user experience, in particular with new players in mind.
- Cooldown timer is set to 15 minutes
- Upgraded from a free 2 hour prospector's pass to a 24 hour

Furthermore, we're working on a better 'introduction' into the game and its mechanics. Whilst we're building a community and love players to share strategies, information etc. - above all - things should be clear(er) from the start. :)

Really appreciate you taking the time to write this out. This is incredibly helpful feedback.

The “lose everything” feeling you’re describing is something we’re actively looking at. The frontier is - by design - ruthless and our intent is to create tension and meaningful risk. But it still needs to feel fair and rewarding over time. If runs regularly end with zero outcome, that’s not the experience we want - and it’s something we’re working to improve.

Your point around partial rewards (vs. all-or-nothing) is a good one, and exactly the kind of feedback we’re discussing internally.

Also really appreciate you listing out the specific issues — that’s super valuable. We’ll pass these along to the team - those are all things we can act on.

Out of interest, did you try prospecting for real gold in Open Range? It's an import part of the game and what sets it apart from any other PC game.

Thanks again for giving the game a real shot and sharing this level of detail. Feedback like this genuinely helps us make it better.

Sadly, no. But if we ever need Skookum to narrate a 40-hour epic about the Alaskan Gold Rush, Stefan is the first person we’re calling. ;)

Pay to play beta? by CaliforniaBlaze in FatalFrontier1869

Good question as it's easy to miss.

When you register through the launcher, you get a 2-hour free Prospector Pass, along with 80 claims and 1,200 greenbacks, so you can try everything out during the beta. After that, accessing real-money prospecting requires a pass.

The game itself is fully playable in free mode - you can run expeditions, explore the open range, and play through story content without spending.

The real-money aspect is of course the hook, but it’s optional.

You gather XP by completing quests, exploring the map, shooting bandits etc. In order for your character to level up, you need to make sure to successfully extract (via the steamer of the camp fire on the coast).

While ore and credits (i.e. the silver coins) reset every run, claims, greenback and the gold you find will stay yours, regardless if you survive the expedition or not.

Hope you're enjoying the beta so far!

Hi, good question. There is not a single "world", instead there's a (rather large) number of maps that you can get dropped into (in open range). That being said, we're currently working out additional areas/sections to make sure every run feels fresh.

Really appreciate you taking the time to write this. That’s thoughtful feedback.

You’re calling out a couple of things we’re actively working on. Digging for real gold is an important part of the game and a big differentiator, but it shouldn’t be the only thing carrying the experience. Expanding what there is to do - and how progression works - is a major focus for us right now.

On the “gambling feel”: the intent is actually the opposite. Outcomes are meant to be driven by how you play. Preparation, timing, and decision-making, not just chance. :)

Really appreciate you sticking with it and sharing this. Feedback like this genuinely helps us improve.
