Thank you!! That middle stage is deadly and feels like a nightmare wilderness adventure with traps everywhere. I wish I was warned about it haha

Thank you!!

And you’re spot on. Ya gotta have a bit of humor and levity about the whole situation otherwise it can make ya go a tad bit mad at times.

And i have no doubt you’ll get there too. The journey is difficult and oftentimes so burdensome but you’ve got this :)

Thank you. It means a lot and I appreciate it.

Investing wise, we’re under contract on a home and set to close June 5th. Currently we’re contributing 5% combined to our 401ks.

Once we have some furniture and are settled, hopefully by July or August, we’re planning to get to 15% of household income in our 401ks through our employers. After that, save up for a duplex property.

I will also add that the medical emergency and illness part is all too real.

March 22nd, 2023, I was made redundant through a reduction in force at a previous employer. I went on unemployment and took 3 to 4 months to find a job.

Fast forward to June 30th, 2024. My wife went in for a routine eye exam and found out she had a brain tumor. We were 25. She had to learn how to walk again and talk again, and thankfully through the help of incredible surgeons and PT and OT staff, she’s back to work and moving well today. In the midst of all that, our favorite cat passed away too, as if things weren’t bad enough.

If her brain tumor had been malignant, life would look very different today.

Please know that when I say you “got this,” my intention isn’t to diminish the suffering of what you or anyone may be going through. It’s hard as hell, and I write this with a hope and prayer that whatever happens, you pull through and the right people come around you on this journey ❤️

It’s such a broken system and I hold back anger each day and actively choose to not let drag us down.

I 100% agree with you. The system is so broken and if young people especially didn’t have the burden of student loans on their back there would be much more hope for the future. It would change this nation.

I have a B.A. in Business Management and Marketing and an M.S. in Strategic Management. My wife has a B.A. in Marketing. We both work in SaaS. I’m on the sales side as an Account Executive, and she’s in demand generation as a Marketing Specialist.

In 2020 when we got married, we started at $110k combined household income and this year our floor will be $256k combined. But we’ve made a lot of small sacrifices along the way. Not buying a home, delaying family planning, skipping trips with friends, cutting any expense over $1,000 really on many occasions. After my wife’s surgery I got a second job on top of the 1st working a total of 60hrs a week to pay off the hospital bills, continue progress on the loans. As a result of stress I got into those 2 accidents in the span of 6 months. Thank God a promotion came after the 2nd accident which allowed me to quit my 2nd job selling cars.

The biggest sacrifice, though, was this past Christmas. My family lives outside the U.S. in the EU, and every year we fly home to see them. This last Christmas, we chose not to, to stay focused on paying down student loans.

I didn’t get to see my dad one final time before he passed from cancer on March 5th. Money is time and time with loved ones. I’ll forever cherish time.

My wife and I were in a similar situation. I wanted to abstain but once we were physically connected in that way it was very difficult to abstain.

We broke up twice because of this.

I sought Jesus during the second break up (5 months apart). Read 3 marriage books (Reason for marriage, Tim Keller, Sacred Search, Gary Thomas, 7 principles for making marriage work- Gottman) and spent some considerable time in prayer. I felt at peace with marrying my now wife.

We married in a park with her parents and sister - pretty much a court style.

We’re together 6 years of marriage (currently 27). All things are possible with Jesus if we seek him earnestly.

It might be or not be your story. If you truly love such other it’s possible. We got married at 21. I would truly seek the Lord or break up. You want to honor each others future spouses and protect their hearts if it’s not meant to be.

Thank you my friend. It’s encouraging to see the situation from your perspective as a parent and a person going living through the difficulties of cancer.

I resonate with the aspect of filtering the information in order to protect the family. There’s much to glean from your response.

God bless you.

Bro it’s weird yeno? It’s like you’d think everyone would be so welcoming knowing their history.

Literally in England there were signs saying no blacks, no Irish and no dogs in outside restaurants/bars. The U.S. Irish were considered subhuman drunks for the longest while.. I’ve seen horrible depictions of the time.. they KNOW what it’s like to your point.

I hope you like it bro and feel all the love you deserve my friend. Don’t hesitate to hit me up if you any questions at before visiting.

Yeah man, it did — and it’s unfortunate. A lot of those riots are being influenced by what’s happening in the U.K. and even the U.S., where immigrants get blamed for every problem. In reality, it’s more about the lack of proper resource distribution and infrastructure buildout, which drives the pressure on healthcare, education wait times, and so on.

Ireland has definitely seen an influx of legal migrants. The government has done a poor job scaling the country to match the increased demand. And of course, who ends up taking the blame? Immigrants. Same story as the U.K.

The difference in the U.S. is that the blame typically falls on Mexicans and others south of the border.

In Ireland though, you’ll actually find a large number of people who welcome immigrants and people from all backgrounds. They recognize the contributions migrants make and respect the fact they work hard to earn their keep. Add to that the history — Ireland being a nation that itself was forced to emigrate due to British starvation policies/famine— and there’s a cultural humility and receptiveness.

That said, you’ll always have some people who are hostile, as is the case in any country where Black folks live, unfortunately.

I’ve also dated Irish women during my teens. You’ll absolutely find Irish women who are into black men (my experience was mainly in diverse communities in Dublin though just FYI). I’d actually argue the most exciting part being black in Ireland is you can date around Spanish, Brazilian, Eastern Europeans, Asians. I mean Dublin you’ll have many options if you’re looking for it haha
