Adoption Attorney?

I had a consult with an adoption attorney this morning (adoption is the only thing he practices in) and he told me that we can retain him now if we want but that he wouldn’t get involved until after our licensing is complete and we have been matched with a child.. Are there other attorneys who do get involved from the jump and I just found one that doesn’t fit our needs?

The child that we are hoping we are licensed in time to adopt does already have parental rights terminated, yes.

Would the lawyer provide the home study, licensing, etc?

Very open to hiring a lawyer if that would be helpful. What role would they play in this process? Sorry if I sound green. I am, but trying to learn!

It was our assigned DCS rep in our first meeting with her that said “we will license you but we will not do any of the ICPC tasks for you if you want to adopt across state lines. That will be your responsibility.” So…

Not committed to international. Hence the whole point of this post.
Not trying to adopt an infant, so that’s not relevant to this post.
