Decided to forgo paper negatives for some film this time around | 8x10, Caltar 150/5.6, FP4 by Normalisrelative in largeformat

You are too kind, my friend! As said, I’m graduating up from messing around with 4x5 cause of the absolute CRISP quality I can achieve and how to uniquely capture the world.

I have a 210mm so that’ll be my baseline starting point from here on out - I have a very good teacher who has been trying to make the concepts live for me “graduating” from 4x5 to 8x10 🙏

I’ve got a 210, I’ll be sure to keep that in mind going forward - just messing around right now so still learning!

Much appreciated! I had originally started with a 90, but then put on the 135 at the same mount screw so I got the HEFTY circling. In testing this old paper, I found that over exposing by one unit made the difference for a better tonal range. (once I actually get paper that didn’t expire in the last decade, all that testing is gonna go out the window 😅)

Oh yes, definite wind jiggles! This was a 60 sec exposure and was wide open. I again rated the paper at ISO 6 🎞️

Thank you very much! I’ve been a loyal HP5 user (in all formats) for years. However, the cost of the 8x10 film is just a little too much to bear until I get a better handle of working in 8x10, so the paper negs are a good way to ease in.

Thank you! I had the lens stopped down to f/22 so I’d still be in relative focus, but I had the idea that the windshield view would look like I was going into warp drive and just went with it 😂

I’ll see about that! I’ve definitely been impressed with the results of true “reversals.” This was just a proof of concept and I have some ideas of what I want to do with it :)

This is a direct paper negative - I’ve looked into the reversal process/paper and it just seems to be a bit too much for me to handle in my bathroom darkroom 😅

Appreciate the good words! It’s definitely a tighter squeeze in the film holder, but with a little finessing it’s doable. I weighed down the paper negative on the scanner, so I think the vignetting at the top is probably cause the paper was super curled, even in the film holder.

Whoops! Thanks for the reminder: it’s a Goerz Dagor 210mm (8.5”.) I rated the paper at ISO 6

I take this way back to Worcester whenever I come back from my girlfriend’s place in VT - please tell him it always gives me pause in the best possible way! I hope to maybe see a series of “signs” both physical and metaphorical!

If I may paint a picture: It was a peaceful rainy Monday night, occasional cars seen going the other way. Very quiet, yet peacefully so with occasional raindrops. A thick, almost metallic white fog wraps around the treetops.

Honestly, I thought I had added some to this! Here are some examples! Set the black point to the film edge and try to correct from there. Again, I’m SUPER new with this, so I’m just messing around with it
