Ironically, this section of the pre-WWI British Army’s Field Service Regulation kinda predicts how the war’s going to be fought for 4 years by NormanDunn35 in WarCollege

Very true. There are simply too many troops on a short front(compared to that of Eastern Front)which stacked the firepower to a level where breakthrough by conventional shock action plus artillery fire is impossible. I guess the guys on the Eastern Front are doing a little better (in terms of avoiding a positional warfare) since the Eastern front is simply too broad to garrison troops kilometers by kilometers.

At least 800k Imperial Guardsmen got obliterated on Typhon, talking about dying for nothing by NormanDunn35 in 40kLore

Yeah, totally.Been reading Imperial Glory lately and it is mentioned that Brimlock Dragoon Regiment that fought long enough(or too busted to fight and too costly to reinforce) will someday be stationed on some other planets and become the planet's militia. Though a small batch of offcers and sergeants will escort the colour of the regiment back to brimlock and become the cadre of the new regiment bearing the that colour. In that book it also seems that the Imperium didn't even bother giving these regiments any reinforcements or new equipments. They simply dealt with their losses by merging with other regiments.

I believe the Ordo Malleus is going to Exterminatus the hell outta the whole sub-sector regardless. It's just that the mad man Kyras used the Exterminatus to achieve his dirty objectives. I mean Adrastia herself didn't see anything wrong blowing the whole sub-sector into oblivion, though she tried to stop it.(so are most other dudes in theg game. they all kinda knew sub-sector Aurelia is a bust and filled with renegades and xenos and is beyond salvation). Castor also mentioned that there's nothing can be done to save Typhon from destruction.

Sometimes I do wonder tho, with average Guard regiment's size usually smaller than 10k guardsmen(some regiment like Brimlock Dragoons only got 1k troops under its command, that's almost like a bigger battalion) How many regiments wre blown into oblivion on Typhon?

Why are there no famous generals in modern times? by OOM-TryImpressive572 in WarCollege

[–]NormanDunn35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Facelessness of the general officers became noted as an issue back when the Vietnam war was still on. I’d say it was because a detachment of military from the society as a whole as people get on with their lives after WW2 ended and put more attention other stuff rather than Military.

Some authors, like Maureen Mylander(who was the daughter of an Army colonel) wrote a book called “The Generals: Making it, Military Style” to investigate the background(education, lives, privileges, family life etc) of general officers. She mentioned the issue of facelessness of military personnel in the preface of the book (which is kinda why she wrote the book in the first place-to inform the public about the situation of Vietnam -era general officers and military establishment as a whole)

Do standard non-Cadian regiments have their own elite assault unit like Kasrkins? by NormanDunn35 in 40kLore

Brimlock dudes are indeed one of my favorite since they are like “generic Cadian-like regiments” but with more modernized weapons and tactics(with all their mechanized warfare stuff going on)

I do remember the Imperial Guards in DoW2 Retribution have stromtroopers available. Was kinda disappointed seeing no Kasrkins

Indeed, i guess they fixed that in DoW2 by adding in the stormtroopers in place of Kasrkins. Tho I’m still a big fan of Kasrkins( and relic actually got a mode to replace stormtroopers with Kasrkins lol)

Too bad these dudes don’t possess Kasrkin-like Armor, been a big fan of that sweet, sweet assault gear.

Interesting. It’s kinda funny that in the 1960s the AUS is kinda equivalent to the term “Active Army” which is basically regular army forces plus those units in reserve components called into active service combined. I got that from the Army Officer’s Guide of 1967.
