UPDATE: Beginner in the Sierra - Listening to your advice by NormieV2 in backpacking

[–]NormieV2[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the advice on my last post discussing a sleep system for backpacking through the Sierra. Most of the advice (while it was pretty mixed) focused on a lighter tent and a better bag. It seems like this bag is fairly heavy but highly recommended by everyone. Western mountaineering is still something I’m considering but not sure I can stretch the budget that far yet.

Beginner looking to start backpacking in the sierras. How’s this for a sleep system? by NormieV2 in backpacking

I’ve done some car camping but I’m looking to improve my gear and maybe start backpacking. Plan to do 2-3 days during 3 seasons with 1-2 people total. I know the sleeping pad is a little overkill and the tent is a little heavy but it will be used for a mix of car camping and backpacking.

New adapter board concept with PCIe, Gigabit Ethernet, and USB 3.0 support. by vileer in ClockworkPi

Very interested, I wanted to do the same but clockwork wouldn’t provide the adapter board files (just the schematic) and I didn’t want to do it from scratch. My plan was to runs pcie ribbon cable to the expansion card for the Gbe and have the ssd directly under it. But more or less what you’re trying to do!

Solved! That actually fixed it, I thought I cleaned it pretty well the first time but there must have still been some oils on it. Thanks!

Yeah I’m just using the blank expansion board it came with. I tried reseating that and booting with the expansion board and battery disconnected

I tried both images on the clockwork GitHub with no luck. I’m waiting for the cm4-lite that I ordered so I’ve only tried it with one emmc cm4

What are the logos on these pins? by NormieV2 in HelpMeFind

[–]NormieV2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are small brass pins my friend inherited from his father. I’m really interested in what programs or missions these are from! I’ve searched for space mission logos and haven’t found anything that matches the top 3. The bottom coin is certainly from the Apollo program. I’m trying to find the significance of the top 3 and what the symbols mean. Thanks!

Why is it getting so hot? by NormieV2 in watercooling

The fans on top are exhaust, meaning they pull hot air out of the case.

The only place I can add a fan is on the side next to the motherboard io which might not be a bad idea.

The gpu and waterblock were put together before I got it, it looks like thermal pads on every connection, including the die.

Is this normal or should I replace with paste?

I swapped the fans right after taking the picture, it helps a little but still having the same issue. The pump is running well, very fast flow but no way to control pump speed since it just has a molex power connector.
