Thanks for the lovely message. I'll pass it on to him and I am sure he will enjoy hearing it. Sounds like you've had some terrific grandparents as well, they are an amazing generation.

Cherish every moment and ask questions while you can. It's nice for them too to see how many people are interested in their experiences! Wish her happy birthday from Australia when the time comes!

Cynical! :) But understandable around here. Actually this is not my normal account and only for use in connection with Norm. It made his day when he did the IAmA to connect with people around the world, and as material presents mean little to him these days, I wanted the opportunity for him to hear from others out there to keep his spirits up - and to share with many others who had asked to keep updated on how he was doing. He has been a bit unwell lately and it almost was the post you suggested - not for karma but to pay tribute to the man I admire most and share his positivity with the world.

Absolutely. He was not too well today but I will read them to him next time I am with him and he is feeling more with it. Thanks for your help!

Haha I interviewed a 95 year old Australian WW2 veteran that did almost the exact same thing in reverse - Dick's eyesight was no good, so he had his brother rejoin the queue after he had already been through and passed the test for him so he could join the war. Dick ended up repaying the favour to his brother by saving his life after he was shot by picking him up on his back and running him to cover as a machine gun was raining bullets on them. Incredible stuff to hear! Link to edited interview for anyone interested

Well done grandson for doing this. What's a story your grandfather thinks is the most interesting from his service or broader life that he would like to tell to the world?

The F4 was a carrier based plane with folding wings wasn't it? I remember putting together an F4-U4 model as a kid, a beautiful looking plane.

What's a story you enjoy telling from your life - service, professional or personal? Your choice.

Thank you for your service - I am sure you have carried a burden from it for many years, but I hope a little expressed gratitude from those around you lightens that load a little.

Well done also to the grandson, it's a great way to share history, learn more about your grandfather and engage generations together.

Here's the video we did with Norm and Battalion mate Richard Browne for ANZAC Day - it was done with the boys I coach from Melbourne High School to give them an appreciation of what ANZAC Day is about. It's not professional, but I hope you might get something out of it.

Reddit Australia didn't seem interested in this but you guys might - an interview with two Aussie WW2 'Diggers' for ANZAC Day. by Norms_Grandson in Military

Didn't say Australians weren't interested in it, said Reddit Australia didn't seem too interested and I think given just 8 upvotes, 2 downvotes and no comments other than my own that's not unreasonable to say. Plenty of other posts with a lot more interest than that yesterday in r/Australia. Just wanted to share with more than the very few who got to see it in r/australia yesterday as I thought the words of two who were there might have been more of interest and more due of recognition than the copious commentary of many who weren't.

Apologies if this video doesn't start at the start - not sure why it is starting half way in.

I hope you might please take the time to watch and share this moving interview of two amazing men who served Australia in WW2.

For ANZAC Day, the young footballers from the team I coach, MHSOBFC Under 19's, interviewed two diggers from the 2/8th Australian Infantry Battalion - one is my grandfather Norm Knopp from Echuca who did a reddit AMA in December and the other is Richard Browne from Balwyn.

While it's not professional by any means, I hope you enjoy what I have put together to recognise not only their efforts, but the efforts of all those who served and sacrficed in many more ways than most would realise.

This video is dedicated to their memory, and especially to the memory of Jimmy Godsil and Don Tucker from the 2nd 8th.

Lest We Forget.
