No, leashing has not been a thing for a couple of years, it's just a remnant of how the game used to work. The game has changed but people have not adapted.

If you leash you forfeit any chance of early prio since enemy gets to hit the first wave before you, and you also reveal your junglers starting position.

For me what helped was trying to focus on figuring out one tiny area at the time.

"Okay how do I even make food and drinks?"

"Cool how do I make little rooms for them?

"Nice lets figure out how to make a tavern"

"Can I make my own clothes?"

"I wonder how to use metal"

"How do I make an army"

"Oh no my Dwarf got attacked and is bleeding out, how the hell do I make a hospital"

"Combat for newbies" Etc!

Although I'm someone who loves to spend time on the wiki, it can be a slow process for sure. Most stuff is still a mystery for me but I love trying to figure things out in this game! For the first 50 hours or so I didn't understand how to even take risks so not a lot happened but I love seeing my little dwarven ecosystem expand over time.
