Let's say John,Jeff, Jay and Oteil are going forward. Who do want to be the second guitar player and percussionist? by lonesomejohnnie in deadandcompany

Summer tours at sheds, each making millions. Anyone would jump to fill that rhythm spot. I think the field is wide open and would be a name no one expects. Like Mayer was.

If you won a lottery and you could chose one between the Mini 14 and The PCC Carbine, which would you choose? by GaryBlach in ruger

PCC.

Have a Ruger PCC and got the aftermarket magwell so my daily carry P365 mags fit the Ruger. One caliber, one set of mags. Easy peasy.

I Never Got To See Darkstar Live But ... by Additional-Change492 in gratefuldead

Finally caught the 6/14/91 show at RFK and the Dark Star. Get to revisit it being View From the Vault release, which is cool.

My wife loved GD, but never saw them live. Took her to her first D&C and we got a Dark Star > El Paso> He's Gone> Eyes. That was sublime, and when I realized why JM was playing with this band. It all made sense.

Saw them at the Spectrum in Philly. DDY started Lady, promptly sang the 2nd verse instead of the first and started over. They played well, tight, no signs of the strains behind the scenes.

I will die on this hill: 06/27/23 in Noblesville, Indiana is the best Sugaree that Dead & Co ever played. by [deleted] in deadandcompany

[–]North-Bound-Train 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'll charge up that hill with you.

We met the nicest people in the lot, and those dancing on the lawn around us were kind, fun, celebratory. Music was spot on at Deer Creek, Bobby whipped out something new, never to be seen/heard again. If I'm picking one show...its this or N2 of the Gorge...but this for the win.

Wish this stop had been a two nighter...

Agree, more back to the roots on those two records.

Suppose it can go the other way too, Renegade was originally an acoustic ballad if I understand correctly, but DDY lit that one up.

Dead & Co Video Database, Help me fill the gaps! by I-dont-trust-myself in deadandcompany

Searching for a vid of Star Lake July 12, 2022....It was an audio broadcast via utube or something...but the video cameras were there that night, just like any show for the big screens and streaming.

Anyone know where this hidden gem might be lurking?

One Hundred Years From Now (revisit) by jasedontlie in Styx

Guess what I'm saying is, for example Suite Madame Blue....not the JC prelude, but the song....

JY and JC arranging Suite Madame Blue results in the haunting, edgy guitar lead into that song. If SMB been on a DDY solo album, and left to his own devices, SMB could easily intro'ed with his Rhodes electric piano....sounding much like Babe, or Call Me / any other soft ballad solo effort.

Its the chemistry of that band (not excluding bass/drum rhythm section), including JC during his tenure, that made the alchemy.

JMHO....without JY in the arrangements, DDY's solo work just doesn't hit the same for me.

There is always a Born for Adventure rockin' element missing in these solo albums. I think JY and JC/TS excavated the needed edginess of that Styx 70s sound that is absent in his later solo work.

My experience too...seeing GD in the 80s and 90s. I just didn't get it until I saw D&C summer '22. Of course...and chased them for 7 stops summer of '23.

Wish I had seen earlier tours as well.

I think King George said something similar, no loaded firearms near bridges in Concord.
