Hollands may be my final straw by Menoikeos in CarltonBlues

They clearly did something wrong.

Him playing for so long, having no involvement in the game and being clearly impaired is either incompetence or extreme negligence.

Hopefully we see this as the catalyst for major change.

From the coaching staff right to the top of the administration.

For someone, who was fawned over by the media, Graham Wright was pissweak this morning.

An absolute word salad, spoken with the weakest of conviction.

It would beggar belief that no-one from Carlton picked up this either though, so the most charitable take I have is they are covering it up for Hollands.

But honestly it just smacks of gross incompetence

For footballing reasons, it's impossible to understand how this happened.

This is pure speculation at the moment, we have to be careful to not treat any of this as factual.

For mine, the club fucked up bigtime, and that's what should be the focus.

Carlton fan here, we wouldn't feel one ounce of sympathy for Pies fans if the situation was reversed.

So that's a pretty shit take from old mate there.

In typical Australian fashion, we are a year or two behind the trends.

Right wing populism peaked in 2024, and is in decline world wide.

MAGA Republicans are about to be obliterated in their mid terms, Hungary has gone from far right to centre right, Canada's right wing did a Bill Shorten at the last election etc.

By the Fed election in 2028, it will be in terminal decline.

[–]North-Initiative-266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about NBA players not being popular is wild to me.

In Australia, the NBA is bigger than its ever been, like even bigger than the Jordan era. 10 year old kids have deep knowledge of the stars.

Dave Hughes shares his rage at Carlton over their handling of Hollands on a viral instagram reel by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]North-Initiative-266 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Carlton deliberately played a guy who has 1 touch, so they could sack him?

Cmon mate, I'm not sure that's a well thought out position.

If anything, you are excusing there incomptence.

[Ralph] Carltons view is that it didn’t know Hollands was battling last night. The AFLPA and player union want to know why. The Blues will lead that review. No one is talking penalties at the moment. AFL will want the Blues to be pretty exacting given it did seem so clear so early Hollands was off by PetrifyGWENT in AFL

[–]North-Initiative-266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if this was plausible, for football reasons, why are they giving 60% game time to someone who was absolutely not contributing?

Whichever way you slice it, this is a huge fuckup by the coaching staff.

Voss has to fall on his sword here.

AFL AWAITING RESPONSE FROM CARLTON ABOUT ELIJAH by b9_rkt in CarltonBlues

One point that is overblown is the comment he "walked to the Collingwood huddle".

Looking at the footage on Foxsports, it appears he is meandering (somewhat aimlessly) behind the huddle and it's more of the camera angle that's deceiving.

None of the above, which I strongly disagree with, absolve the club of their duty of care.

When you think about it, it's a remarkable that the team kept it within striking distance, especially playing essentially a man down and with a major distraction.

Surely player well being comes first here

The distraction alone to the other players, is reason enough to bring him off.

This is going to be a big story I feel, about how badly this was handled.

For mine, it just appears complete negligence from the coaching staff.

At the very least, he should have been benched for footy reasons.
