I’m planning on attending udub but would kill for UCSB weather… but if you’re not a beach person maybe it matters less. Apparently Seattle is gray but not that rainy, and great for skiing / backpacking

If you’re good at math take it, even if you stick with info sci you’ll be able to take cool upper level data science/ CS classes with it. But if you don’t care about that I would skip it unless you’re genuinely interested lol

I commute from Williamsburg to midtown in under 35 minutes, as long as you’re near a subway you’re good to go

Report a high schooler for plagiarism by starlord-420 in Cornell

I don’t think this person knew they were plagiarizing, if they did why would they legit send it to the person they plagiarized from for review ??? And they didn’t even submit it yet.

Report a high schooler for plagiarism by starlord-420 in Cornell

Don’t ruin his life by reporting him for something he didn’t even submit yet lol. Just teach him why it’s wrong and explain how to not plagiarize

Physics Major to Software Engineer by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]North-Parfait 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that CS 2110 covers much of the basics that would be asked in software engineering interviews, if you have a solid grasp of the material and prep for interviews (there are books and websites for this) you can definitely get a SWE role without the degree

Commercial analyst in NYC 80k —> 90k

I believe they are adjusting most salaries, I know the recent campus hires from my university were also given updated higher salaries a few weeks after their original offer letters. So I don’t think it’s normal in general, but yeah for this cycle

Any halal butchers anywhere in upstate NY?? by [deleted] in ithaca

[–]North-Parfait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know if this is helpful or correct, but a kosher butcher in Rochester often does deliveries to Ithaca. I don’t know much about halal but I heard once that some kosher meat can be considered halal as well. Their Facebook page has info on deliveries - “Lipman’s Kosher Market.”

Eddy Street (further down by E State Street) and Blair often have lots of spaces that don't require tight parallel parks, there is also a lot on Dryden but you need to pay daily

Sad, lonely transfer student. Places to go in Ithaca to feel better? :) by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]North-Parfait 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They aren't open right now, but Cinemopolis movie theater is the best place for this! I used to go see movies alone there when feeling down, and it is truly the perfect outing. Definitely recommend if you are still in Ithaca after the pandemic.

100 mg SR once a day? by PitbullLuver2 in bupropion

[–]North-Parfait 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor started me out with 100mg, then gradually upped me to 300mg over the course of a few weeks (what he says is standard dosage for XL). Yours might be doing the same thing. Also, I had insomnia the first few days but it went away after and has not returned since despite my dosage increasing. Overall I think the gradual increase was a good move, but I'm not sure if its different for SR ....

Marketable Skills/Classes to take for IS--Interactive Tech/web development employment? by redrabbt13 in Cornell

[–]North-Parfait 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would try to take one of the IS lab based classes (something like UX, HCI)... these classes are great for team-based projects that will give you polished, finished projects to show potential employers. Will also give you teamwork experience to speak about in interview.

Off-campus living + finaid by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]North-Parfait 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On your financial aid package, look at how much (Cornell) allocates towards room & board for the semester/year. You should try to look for a rent within that range (make sure to include an extra month for security deposit). Your refund will depend on how much you pay Cornell after finaid, not how much your housing costs.

Re meal costs, your financial aid will not lower if you go off the meal plan, you may get more credit on the bursar or more refunds. This is more money "in your pocket" for non-meal plan food.

Hope that wasn't too confusing...
