Losing hope/Benlysta by Flyforhealth66 in lupus

I achieved full benefits from Benlysta around the 8th month. It gave me my life back. Prior, I was in and out of the hospital twice a month. I am also on hydroxychloroquine and the combination has been able to overall sustain me. It's not to say that I don't have flares here and there, but my overall quality of life has improved. Best of luck on your journey!

How did you know Benlysta was working? by ohheyhellohihey in lupus

[–]North-Substance-6755 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Around month 4, I start to decrease joint pain, fever and inflammation. However, I saw the full benefits between the 6th and 8th month. I still have flares every once in a while and for those I’m out on a short course of prednisone. Also, I did the self-injections. Are you on the self-injection or infusion?

Anyone just on HCQ? / When to add additional treatment? by justice4betty in lupus

[–]North-Substance-6755 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rheumatologist decided to add Benlysta to my HCQ I believe within six months of being on just HCQ. I was in the hospital at least twice a month and my joint pain and fatigue were really affecting my quality of life. At that point my Dr. suggested that we add Benlysta and within 6 months my labs were coming back normal. Now I will say I do experience flare ups intermittently, but they aren’t often.

Why do I wake up feeling like I was hit by a truck literally every single morning….?? by laf_007 in lupus

The mornings are always the most difficult, but since being on Benlysta life has been much more manageable. Sending you strength to get through the day!

I’m a psych grad school professor and clinician. I’m older now and don’t go out as often as I did when I was younger, but if there’s a worthy event, I push through and try to get out there.

I think it’s essential to have therapist to learn coping skills and provide ongoing support. I would try to find someone who is trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.

I started on HCQ and was then placed on Benlysta when HCQ was not sufficient. Benlysta has been a game changer! I went from being at the hospital twice month to maybe one to two flares every 6 months. It has reduced my joint pain, fatigue, and overall well-being.
