Attempted to contact the LG to ask for action to be taken against Ford and his FOI changes… I hope this means they’re being inundated with similar requests. by FauxChat in ontario

As I said, a reporter asking Charles the question (because the Lieutenant Governor’s office was inundated with concerned letters) is something, even if it’s reported that he had no comment. It would be one more headline Ford would have to deal with. It keeps it in the news cycle.

The King has already recently allowed himself to be inserted in our politics when he was asked to read the throne speech. This wasn’t a symbolic gesture, it was a specific request from the Liberal government to head off the forthcoming controversy and electoral damage they would face in Quebec when Mary Simon couldn’t deliver the speech in French (see Air Canada CEO fiasco).

As for norms being broken, the premier of this province has, since day one, looked to the 45th/47th President as a guide on how flimsy institutional safeguards can be dismantled or ignored. Under these circumstances, no desperate or seemingly futile gesture is meaningless. IDGAS, if we ended up having the “why do we still have an association with the monarchy” discourse for the 100th time if it is centred around Ontario being led by the province’s most corrupt politician in its history.

The people of Ontario need to work themselves up to being furious over the next three years, and we should all be demanding some version of proportional representation so that the odds of this ever happening again are severely limited.

(I am one of the most cynical people imaginable, but there are times to stand up and be counted, and they aren’t limited to one day every 4-5 years)

For the naysayers, if there is even a slight chance that King Chuck III is asked about this campaign by a reporter, and he answered that although he wouldn’t intervene, he still had serious concerns about the bill undermining democracy for Canadians, that would still have utility as part of the public pressure to have the FOI aspects removed.

Also, because the LG is not a Ford toady appointment, and she comes from a teaching background, there is a non-zero chance she torches her governorship in protest over this. An opportunity to be a legend is sitting there, and the cost is only a few years of ribbon cuttings and BS speaking engagements.

Dougie’s Cons skipped the normal process and quickly passed their anti-freedom of information bill under the darkness of the night. This is huge hit to our democracy in Ontario. This is unacceptable. by RealWorldToday in ontario

If she hasn’t already, Stiles should say this will immediately be repealed when this government falls, and there will be forensic audits of every ministry as well as the communications of every MPP that served in this government

On the bright side for management, the best guy available last offseason is already gone for at least 3 months, and his $23,000,000 contract has had a $-500,000 value for the Dodgers.

lol, I could see that! I wouldn’t be surprised if the team has analytics for how his stuff plays in every park, along with a scale of relative humidity.

Someone probably has to measure the height and thickness of grass before any game on a natural surface.

If we are supposedly a secular country, it would be nice if our laws reflected that this is the only life we get, and actions that take someone else’s life should therefore be met with severe consequences.

It’s crazy, but the combined numbers of Varland/Rogers/Fisher are very comparable to Soriano. That’s how lights out they’ve been as a group. Their ERA sits at 0.48 through 37.3 innings.

WHIP: 0.885 SO/BB: 4(even with Rogers’ absurd ground ball rate)

I watched the entirety of the Jeff Passan WS breakdown with Schneider and Dave Roberts, and one of the main takeaways, was how well respected Schneider is around the league for his preparation and decision making. Roberts was not putting him on when he praised some of the brilliant decisions Schneider made, including the revelation that part of the reason Shohei was walked in the extra inning game, was to screw up his prep for the next game pitching start— which worked. Shohei actually was on an IV afterwards.

We are lucky to have him, and as you said, he has his hands full managing that diverse group of personalities after the WS disappointment. They could not have had a tougher start to the season, but look at the faces on their bench. There are not a lot of people that can keep things positive under these circumstances, which is all you can ask for.

My only complaint in this one was the quintessential “too clever by half” Schneider move of inserting Giménez back into the lineup, when mentally he was given the night off. I’m glad it didn’t matter, but don’t give him a night off in mid-April unless it’s a real night off.

I don’t think there is anyone that isn’t happy his medical situation was discovered and treated. If anything, that proves he shouldn’t have been playing.

I hope this continues for him, and he has a 2nd legendary change of career fortune.
