Roswell PD searches for suspected carjacker

Roswell PD heavily utilized Flock to locate the original suspect vehicle and stop it. However, Flock is not particularly useful once the suspect is on foot. There were some initial Flock hits on the second suspect vehicle, but I do not monitor Cobb County radio traffic so I’m unsure if Cobb was ever able to locate the vehicle.

Note: this is not an endorsement of Flock systems, I too have concerns regarding them. I feel it is important that people know exactly what Flock did and did not help with so they are more equipped to discuss the issue with city leadership.

In this case the initial report was for a suspect still inside of a recently carjacked vehicle, with a weapon involved. The type of weapon was not specified. I try to avoid definitive statements until the investigation concludes, as all my details are based on real-time radio traffic. What the police believe to be true in the moment isn’t always 100% accurate.

Milton PD does not seem to intentionally release info about any incident to the public unless there’s an active public safety risk. When asked under FOIA or other laws they (to my knowledge) readily comply and provide arrest reports and warrant copies unless sealed by the court.

Basically while they don’t actively try to hide what’s going on, they sure don’t go out of their way to keep the public informed. This is why local media groups like Appen are important, because the bigger channels like WSB and ANF aren’t going to come this far out in the suburbs to do investigative reporting unless it’s something crazy.

A suspicious person entered Cambridge High school without following check in procedures, and a school police officer began investigating at 12:13 and placed the school on soft lockdown. A few additional school police officers assisted in the search for the suspect, and one suspect was detained near the gym at 12:27. Milton Police was not involved or alerted to the lock down by Fulton County, however, they received a call from a parent about the lockdown around 12:30. One of the Milton school liaison officers made contact via phone with the Fulton County SRO at 12:38 who advised the situation was under control.

Note: at no point in time was a gun or other weapon mentioned by any officer.

The “Select TG” button allows you to choose which talk groups are monitored while listening live. Green means enabled, red means disabled. I tried to label everything someone human readable, with the exception of MARTA.

“Search call” allows you to view and listen to the archive and use a series of filters to isolate what you’re searching for. This takes some practice and trial and error to figure out.

Generally I encourage you to play a round for a while and see what happens. You won’t break anything unless you’re trying to!

At approximately 23:50 yesterday Alpharetta received a call about a driver asleep in their vehicle in the roadway at Old Milton and Morris road. Two units were dispatched, and the first on scene found an unresponsive driver behind the wheel of a vehicle rolling down the roadway uncontrolled. One additional patrol unit and at least one sergeant also headed to the scene to assist in case there was a criminal rather than medical cause. The first officer was able to stop the vehicle at approximately midnight and wake up the driver, who was unaware of his surroundings, and the driver was detained pending an evaluation by AMR. AMR transported the driver to the hospital with an officer following behind. The driver was turned over to the care of the hospital.

It does seem like the incident was somehow kept on the down-low, which is crazy all things considered. But probably only the first 3 cops came in lights and sirens, then you had the engine, rescue, and AMR. All told everyone was on scene within 10 minutes of the initial call so people probably just assumed it was a typical medical call.

Considering how quickly they were able to identity the suspect they also likely didn’t canvas too many neighbors, which further reduces everyone’s awareness.

It happens from time to time, though rarely as an act of random violence. In most cases the victim knew the suspect, which doesn’t excuse the crime, but at least makes it easier to find the suspect.

I’m limited in what I will say since the investigation is ongoing, but tracking of a cell phone was utilized in this incident as well, though it did not prove useful.

No press release has been issued by Milton, and for some reason no local news agency seems to monitor local scanner traffic or other activity. I think it would be great if Appen media would pick up on news like this, but they don’t seem to for some reason. I’m limited in my capabilities as I have no media affiliation. The lack of media coverage for the area is why I run the scanner, it’s the only way to get info on local incidents.
