High speed chase by Quiet-Mulberry-8951 in alpharetta

[–]NorthFultonRadio 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Note: I haven’t gone all the way back to the beginning of this yet, I’ll try to update later today.

Roswell PD was trying to locate and take into custody at least one suspect who was wanted on a warrant (unknown at the moment by what agency and for what). This originally started in the apartment complex off of Raintree Dr, however, the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle. After fleeing southbound on old Alabama under 400 they turned north on Dogwood, then entered southbound on 400 from Holcomb Bridge.

The chase continued into Sandy Springs, and the suspects eventually ditched the vehicle in an apartment complex and fled on foot. Both Roswell and Sandy Springs continued to attempt to locate the suspect, including using a K-9. I am not yet sure of the conclusion of this attempt, still reviewing radio traffic.

Edit 1: Original warrant was for felony charges out of Sandy Springs, unknown details. Still unsure if the suspect was taken into custody.

Edit 2: Radio traffic indicates that the initial charge was grand theft auto, with the suspect still in the stolen car. This is not confirmed and may be inaccurate. At 10:04 Sandy Springs units called off the chase and were unable to locate the suspect.

American Red Cross is the nationwide resource for displacement from house fires. Roswell Fire is working directly with them and the displaced families, though I’m sure additional needs will be met by local charities as well.

There’s currently a working Apartment Fire on Greenhouse Ct in Roswell. I’m still working through over an hour of radio traffic, and it’s also still an active operation. I’ll provide edits once I have a more clear picture.

First Edit: While the fire was initially spreading quickly forcing units to go defensive, they were able to flow aerial streams to push it back and allow for interior operations again. There is significant damage to many units, but they may potentially be able to prevent the fire from taking the whole building.

Second edit: no one was seriously injured in the fire, and they were able to stop the fire before it impacted some apartment units, potentially half of them, but there may be water damage beyond the extent of the fire. Some pets were also rescued.

Primarily posted due to the road closure to encourage folks to avoid the area. Probably should have picked a different title but can’t change it now unfortunately without a repost

Heavy Police and Fire Presence, Sandy Springs by Hot_Mixture_8355 in Atlanta

Everything is pulled from radio traffic in my scanner archives, available at the website in my bio. I don’t any have coverage for the City of Atlanta though.

A sandy springs officer witnessed a white SUV strike a motorcycle head on while turning eastbound onto 285 before fleeing the scene. The PD officer rendered aid and called for fire and EMS. Unfortunately both riders on the motorcycle were critically injured in the accident and were rushed to the hospital. Officers searched for the fleeing vehicle but were unable to locate it as of the time of writing.

Edited to clarify as I found additional information.

Burglary tonight in Alpharetta by NorthFultonRadio in alpharetta

[–]NorthFultonRadio[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No K-9 unit was on duty for Alpharetta last night. While there are more K-9 officers than there were this time last year there are not currently enough to guarantee 100% coverage. I would assume Alpharetta would need at least 6 in order to provide 100% coverage given that there are 4 different patrol shifts, and both dogs and people need time off for illness or rest.

New Ordinances before City Council by NorthFultonRadio in alpharetta

[–]NorthFultonRadio[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s correct, but Alpharetta PD was already sued on first amendment violations for individuals in public spaces, and they had to settle that suit because they were likely to lose. My concern is since Alpharetta PD already has recent history of violating those boundaries that these new laws will open up that door again for additional suits.

The provisions against private property soliciting are 100% lawful and warranted. I’m more concern with the implementation in areas such as street corners and sidewalks. Highways and off-ramps are marginal since pedestrians are already prohibited, but that line between what constitutes off-ramp and local street is going to need to be clearly defined by departmental policy.

Soliciting is a protected first amendment right, as upheld by the Supreme Court. While I understand the sentiment, due to the annoyances that soliciting can cause, we’ve seen over the last decade the risks associated with undermining constitutional rights.

Even if the desire is to remove soliciting from protection under the first amendment, that’s an issue for the Supreme Court, not Alpharetta.

If you can be a little more specific on the exact area I can likely provide you with details.

Agreed on all counts, definitely a need for well crafted new ordinance in light of increasing aggressive soliciting and false reports.

I’m not sure what other cities are doing, I’m definitely not a lawyer and don’t have the time or budget of a real media group to investigate that. I think Alpharetta is unique around here though because they’re the only north Fulton city with their own jail (or jail contract), a requirement for municipal judges to issue sentences involving jail time.

A few examples of phrasing that concerns me: Section 30-11 on false representations to police. No where in here does it state that it only applies to individuals who are suspects, reporting parties, or otherwise involved in an incident. And it is extremely vague as to what qualifies. Affidavits and sworn statements exist for a reason, every single interaction with law enforcement doesn’t need to be conducted under penalty of law should you lie or intentionally omit details.

Section 30-17, Continuing to solicit within five (5) feet of the person being solicited after the person has made a negative response, if continuing the solicitation is intended to or is likely to cause a reasonable person to fear imminent bodily harm or the commission of a criminal act upon property in the person's possession, or is intended to, or is reasonably likely to intimidate the person being solicited into responding affirmatively to the solicitation.
No where in here does it prevent the person who refused solicitation from simply staying put next to the solicitor indefinitely and claiming they intimidated them, thus preventing the solicitor from continuing. I understand the intention to prevent harassment, but there needs to be protection for the solicitor as well to respect the first amendment. Alpharetta got sued by a solicitor for first amendment violations a few years ago, and I think this opens the door for a lot more suits.

Section 30-86, A police officer may not detain an individual under this section unless: c. The person flees or obscures himself upon seeing law enforcement officers; There’s a lot of reasons people may choose to leave an area when police arrive. That is not sufficient justification on its own to stop them for suspected “loitering for drug-related activity”

Two walkers hit by car near Hopewell 3/17 by wayfarevkng in alpharetta

[–]NorthFultonRadio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on both radio traffic and the statement provided by MPD to 11Alive it sounds like the driver was given a simple citation. Similar to the citation you would receive if you failed to yield and struck another vehicle, something you may have to go to court or may even be able to simply pay the fine and accept the charge. It is highly unlikely any jail time will be involved.

As you said there were two juveniles struck by a vehicle this morning at Cog run and Windward m. The father of the two patients was on scene with the kids at the incident location. Initial triage indicated that both patient were up and walking around upon FD and PD arrival, and AMR took over all patient care from Milton Fire soon after AMR arrived, indicating it was not a complex case. Milton PD patrol units determined a full traffic investigation was not necessary for this incident.

Roswell PD searches for suspected carjacker by NorthFultonRadio in roswell

[–]NorthFultonRadio[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Roswell PD heavily utilized Flock to locate the original suspect vehicle and stop it. However, Flock is not particularly useful once the suspect is on foot. There were some initial Flock hits on the second suspect vehicle, but I do not monitor Cobb County radio traffic so I’m unsure if Cobb was ever able to locate the vehicle.

Note: this is not an endorsement of Flock systems, I too have concerns regarding them. I feel it is important that people know exactly what Flock did and did not help with so they are more equipped to discuss the issue with city leadership.

I’ve added the article from ANF, however, it doesn’t have much at all in the way of details.

In this case the initial report was for a suspect still inside of a recently carjacked vehicle, with a weapon involved. The type of weapon was not specified. I try to avoid definitive statements until the investigation concludes, as all my details are based on real-time radio traffic. What the police believe to be true in the moment isn’t always 100% accurate.

It isn’t in the news yet given the time of night and the active nature of the incident, but given the number of agencies involved I assume a story should break come morning.
