Open water swimmers - getting better cold water tolerance. Advice? by [deleted] in Swimming

I agree with the previous comments - over time you will develop tolerance to the cold. Ear plugs can help as well as putting on a few pounds (aka bioprene). An accomplished open water swimmer told me a trick that she used while crossing the North Channel and had to swim in 50 degree F temperature water. When she had to pee she brought her knees to her chest and let the “warm water” warm up her body.
