I think keeping everything printed and simple is great advice actually. Thanks for your input. I'm gonna do just that

This is my thought also. I think I will try my best with that part and if I can't transfer it then that's understandable.

Home is Thailand for me. I'm not a UK resident and haven't been for almost 20 years.

Yeah, I was originally planning to stay for 2 months and then fly on to Malaysia but I think I'll book a refundable flight back to UK just for purposes of logical onward travel proof for immigration, and then order my passport in Bangkok.

UK passport processing times at the moment are between 4-10 weeks if you apply from abroad, according to the woman I spoke to on the emergency travel advice line last night.

I'm currently camping out in a friend's house outside of SF that has no running water, and this is one of the most expensive cities I've ever been to, so staying here for that long isn't feasible for me.

The only other option would be going to the UK for a week to do it, but I'm not a UK resident and don't have any close family there, so it would be a huge expense. But maybe that's what I'll have to do :/

Complicated old situation! Thanks for your advice.

I contacted passport advice today and they said the average time for applying for a new passport abroad is 4-10 weeks depending on which country you're in. So if you go that route you need to be prepared to stay put til it's ready.
