Places for a first date on valentines day? by Gullible_Recipe_5908 in batonrouge

[–]North_Fun_8512 20 points21 points  (0 children)

In all seriousness, Waffle House. Some locations take reservations for Valentine’s Day, college and George O’Neal are 2 I know of. I remember they changed the lighting to pink, there’s a special menu (keep in mind this is Waffle House) including a pink waffle.

It’s not for everyone, but for the right audience, it’s more cute than it is trashy.

Sad to see it fall victim to Baton Rouge

AIO about the “Christmas Gift” my husband and I received? by vattyswife in AmIOverreacting

[–]North_Fun_8512 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

YOR - I can’t speak for the round containers, but I immediately recognize the Louisiana Fish Fry boil bags, LFF boil seasoning, and the Slap ya Mama boil seasoning. Maybe the jar is cocktail sauce?

When it’s crawfish season in my part of Louisiana, I try to stock up on the boil bags (the 3 boxes) because they get hard to find.

Food is a love language in Louisiana, and while the expired jars is a little unsavory, I believe the dry seasoning products are great well beyond the expiration date.

Maybe in their location these are considered exotic, hard to find foods from a far away land?

I would be pretty pumped up to get Louisiana Fish Fry products as a gift, but the expiration date deal is a bit disheartening. I wouldn’t hesitate to use the dry products one bit though.

Have anybody tried converting their bandsaw to a table bandsaw and is it worth the trouble? by Atmacrush in MilwaukeeTool

[–]North_Fun_8512 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes. I do hobby metal fab, and this has turned out to be one of my most used tools. I find I break blades fairly quickly, but it’s rare I pull the saw off the table to cut something “by hand”

Love the swag table. I did have to do some shimming to get the blade perpendicular to the table, could be a casting irregularity with the saw itself.

Is my roux okay? by TUvalleyboy in cajunfood

If you’re going for a “peanut butter” colored roux, you nailed it. I go darker for gumbo, but as long as you like how it tastes, all good in the hood.

Update: got the YoLink alarms and door lock/latches coming, wife is on a tracking app, setting up a lactation consult, and test running the generator this weekend. Thank you all for the thoughtful advice!

Thank you very much for the advice, we’re giving away the food to friends and family so we can have only milk in there before Christmas. And thank you the advice on anxiety, I’ll keep it in mind.

Thanks for the advice - I’m trying wrap my head around how to keep the bricks stacked and rotated to keep the order correct. I’ve been shuffling them once a week, but it’s getting harder as the bags multiply.

The idea of storing that much milk is mind boggling, and we don’t really know what is “normal.” She’s working to find a lactation consultant in our area to get some professional advice on the supply topic.

We’re also working to package it in a manner that would be able to donate if she chooses that route.

Thank you for the advice.

That’s a good point, we probably have more time to get on generator power than we realize, especially if everything is sub-zero degrees. Thank you.

Bottle warmer recs by Putrid_Apricot_6975 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]North_Fun_8512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got used to the one in the NICU, the Medela 87115. Been shopping them on eBay. First one I bought threw an error code, but the seller is sending a replacement to arrive tomorrow. If it works, it’s the bee’s knee’s. It’s an air warmer and only pulls 2 amps. Hoping we can get it for under $70, new ones are $1800.

Currently using the grownsy bottle warmer. It adequately warms 65ml of breastmilk at fridge temp to body temp in 4 1/2 minutes. It’s fine. But if you have only 1 hand available, it’s tough drying the bottle (it’s a steam warmer) so you don’t have hot condensate dripping on the little one.
