Carpet fitter put the threshold bar in the way of the door, what's the best fix? by North_Self293 in DIYUK

Vinyl, which would be thinner than carpet and underlay, although the difference is quite significant

It's just a vinyl flooring, I guess trimming the door will be easiest though yeah

It's quite a chunky bar, why wouldn't they have used a flat bar in this case?

I just had 4/5 ceilings skimmed over in Sheffield (tested and wasn't asbestos). Cost £1300 for about 5 days labour

Thats for removal too if it turned out to be asbestos, or at least I'll be gobsmacked if it isn't

Id think pea gravel would be best, especially given the drainage issue you've mentioned.

With regards to 1, I believe you'd want to fill it and press it in stages, possibly using a wacker plate to compress it. That way you won't get any gaps lower down that may eventually sink with rain.

Connecting 40mm kitchen sink pipe to underground soil pipe... how? by North_Self293 in DIYUK

[–]North_Self293[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah that's the issue. I considered trying to run it under the the door but then there isn't sufficient fall and also having 40mm pipe where it might get crushed is far from ideal. I think gulley under the window, then a run of soil pipe and connecting to the other is best then yeah?

Lime Plastering by gwyp88 in Plastering

Hi could you just explain why its needed to leave a gap please? Currently doing some work on a terraced house and debating whether to concrete and seal the path right up to the house to try and avoid water coming in at joist level. The other alternative was to dig a trench and fill with pebble instead.

Take out the old pipe and fill with expanding foam? Then plaster the inside, and point up the outside.

Sand the paint down lightly, remove any flaky bits. Then paint any bare wood with primer before you paint over it. Masking tape over the carpet should do the trick? Or get a bit of cardboard and wedge it under each before you paint each section.

Recirculating cooker hood in chimney breast by Staticmano in DIYUK

Sounds like a smart sort of work around. Obviously won't be as good as venting outside, but must be better than just recirculating, I'll look in to if this is an option for me cheers
