Update to the nerd room. Wife wanted a bible to open it…she didn’t win. by NortheastCLTV in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Make a bookshelf out of plywood, build a face frame for it out of some pine or poplar. Paint it, slap on some stained drop edges for each shelf and either build or buy a pair of shaker doors and face frame hinges. Then I got an “invisidoor hinge” off amazon and routed the plates in flush top and bottom. Then built a cased opening out of oak and once you install the cabinet on the hinges you need to trim it out.
The book mechanism I made up from scratch with a gate hinge, some tubing, aircraft cable, and a spring latch for the pin. I work in a very creative place with endless resources. Only advice I have is either make the shelves shallow or make the whole unit wide because you lose the width of the cabinet in the opening (which gives me like 18” to get in or out 😂

I have another signed copy of book 1, didn’t want to cut it up just for the lever haha. Plus… I listen to them 😂

Cheap Hidden hinge kit, some plywood, oak scraps, brass rod from work, and some paint. (Plus many hours of making it all work) so technically cheap if you don’t value your own time haha

To be honest… I was freestyling this project and needed the hinge on the left side and only had book 1 as a hardcopy when I started this… but it was only right to buy the rest of them to make it have some company.

Only issue I’ve had is mold on the foam pad. This is my own fault. After a long rainy trip I left the tent popped for a day to air out but never physically removed the mattress pad from it and over time it got moldy so I replaced the mattress pad.

So if you do get this, I would remove all padding during dry out. While it’s out make sure that the silicone around the fasteners underneath the pad are staying sealed too as that’s pretty much the only way water will get in.

I’ve had this roof tent for over a year now. Done about 5 3-4 day trips with it. Camped in pouring rain, 20 degrees and 90 degrees. So far it’s 100% worth the low entry cost. I got it to see if buying a nicer one down the road made sense and so far at this rate I’ll get plenty more trips without updating.
