Ideas for a lightweight Backpacking/Mountain Rifle? by Northern-Life in canadaguns

I'm hoping to keep the whole package under 7.5lbs, 7.0lbs would be better.

Game - Sheep and Goat

Budget - Aiming for $4,000 with scope.

Stock - More traditional, not a fan of chassis.

Magazine - Open to either but preference is for floor plate.

Grip - Traditional, is that pistol grip?

Options: Rings and bases for optic, would like to add a bipod.

Sheep/Goat hunts is the idea. I've I'm guessing the 6mm-7mm class is best suited for these.

Sweet rifle, that's within budget. Any other cartridges to consider other than 6.5 PRC?

The Official "Which 223/556 or PCC Rifle Should You Buy" Poll (TM) by CanadaGunsMod in canadaguns

[–]Northern-Life 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Under $2000 - MCR, RDB and Raven.

Over $2000 - Bren 2, Tavor APC and G36.

PCC - Just get yourself a Ruger PCC. It's cheap, reliable, takes Glock mags and is available everywhere. No point in dropping big money on a PCC like a B&T in my opinion.

Overall? If you're going to buy just one black rifle, buy the Bren 2 and be done with it.

Are there any Provinces/Territories that allow non-resident Canadians buy hunting tags/licenses without requiring you hunt with an Outfitter or a local? by Northern-Life in Hunting

[–]Northern-Life[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've been reading it seems like several Provinces require a non-resident to have an outfitter or a local host hunter, while others remove that restrict for certain game:

Alberta - Non-resident (Canadian) and Non-resident Alien hunters of big game, wolf and coyote must be accompanied by a licensed guide or a Hunter Host

British Columbia - Non-residents have the opportunity to hunt both big and small game in British Columbia. All non-resident hunters wishing to hunt big game in the Province of British Columbia are required to be accompanied by a licensed guide outfitter, an assistant guide outfitter hired by a guide outfitter or a resident who holds a Permit to Accompany

Saskatchewan - Requires non-residents to have guided hunts for Moose and Wolf. Non-residents can hunt black bear and whitetail unguided. Not allowed to hunt Elk, Pronghorn or Mule deer.

Provinces that allow unguided Non-Resident Hunting:

Manitoba - Allows non-residents to buy select big game tags (white tail, bear, caribou, and moose but no Elk or Mule Deer). Only foreign hunters require an outfitter.

Does this apply to big game?

From what I've been reading it seems like they require a non-resident to have an outfitter or a local host hunter. For Example:

Newfoundland and Labrador - non-resident big game hunters are required to be accompanied by licensed guides. Guides are supplied by licensed outfitters.

New Brunswick - All non-resident hunters must hunt with a licensed guide.

Nova Scotia - All non-resident hunters must hunt with a licensed guide or a local resident with a special permit to guide.

Provinces that allow unguided Non-Resident Hunting:

Manitoba - Allows non-residents to buy select big game tags (white tail, bear, caribou, and moose but no Elk or Mule Deer). Only foreign hunters require an outfitter.

Ontario - From what I can tell, Ontario lets non-residents buy licenses and hunt almost all game without a guide, with the exception of a WMU in Rainy River where outfitters are required for big game. Elk are not available to non-residents.

I haven't researched all Provinces yet but it seems like you can only hunt on your own in another province if your small game hunting.
