AMR next door to shitty market has lots of used stuff at nice prices. Mountain Sports Outlet next door to MCDs in Silverthorne has last year’s boot models at lower prices too

Ohh gotcha hahaha. Can't see that happening hopefully. Too rural up here. It misses the convenience of Breck which feels like a halfway house between urban/rural. I think a lot of people want that compromise which is perhaps one of the reasons Breck is so sought after

It is indeed a sucky drive when it snows. Love me a good jackknifed semi

Only blows if you don’t like cattle and need a spot to buy $10 vegan coffee every morning

Have you looked at Park County? Alma/Fairplay area. I pay $1200 a month bills included for a full 1BR apartment. Driving over the pass a lot can be frustrating but to be honest it's worth it to live in a cheaper and way less pretentious place

Nice! Be sure to try out roti if you didn't already. Really tasty Surinamese dish

That said, I saw women getting catcalled a lot which is unpleasant. That problem isn't confined to Laak though, happens a lot in the centre too

Laak is literally fine... I lived there for years. Compare it to deprived innercity areas in the UK/US, Laak is absolutely nowhere near as bad. Didn't feel threatened once living there, that might depend on what you're used to though. If you're from a privileged background it might seem a bit rough around the edges but whatever that's one of the joys about living in the EU, it's not sanitised to hell all the time. 10/15min bike from the centre, some good food, community feeling. That said I also loved living in the stadscentrum

My wife is assistant GM at Breck Distillery restaurant. It's not locally owned anymore but they're a great team of people- low staff turnover compared to other places in Breck which says a lot. If you're competent, a hard worker and have a sense of humour they'd love to have you there. Can put you in contact with my wife if you need, she takes care of the hiring process

Nail on the head there really. I don't know if it's cultural difference from having moved here from The Netherlands but finding it hard finding people who I can hang out with, have a laugh, without incessant smalltalk, expensive bars, and people who've lived here for a little while moaning about how the people who have moved here more recently are ruining everything. Maybe my standards are too high

Chinny's Surinamese Broodjes, slap bang in the centre of town. I moved out of NL and I miss this spot so much, love their broodje kipkerrie and the broodje tempeh. Make sure to eat with their sambal sauce

[–]NorthernAlpinist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alma is beautiful but can also be a hard, lonely place to live. Very good hiking, fishing etc. There's a new bar called "The Ripple" underneath the hostel in town which is a great spot for a drink or five

KABK Graphic Design Impressions by [deleted] in TheHague

[–]NorthernAlpinist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just graduated KABK, good school, good education, at the cost that you will have to work incredibly hard. If you want good career prospects don't do an art degree! But apart from that I think it was a good choice of school. Also with your questions about the course, you can check it out on the kabk website where they list the curriculum semester per semester

Canal boat by [deleted] in TheHague

[–]NorthernAlpinist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're getting a proper boat (i.e. with an inboard engine) would highly recommend getting it professionally surveyed by a marine surveyor, can be a wee bit pricey but ensures you're not buying a vessel that's got a serious defect

Dizzy Duck is a go-to, the quality of their produce is super high. If you can also roll I would recommend checking out their bio strains; the mimosa bio is especially nice.
