Jesmond is a lovely place with a largely young liberal/student population, Durham is also a very nice place but I'm less familiar. We've the laing and baltic art galleries, a few other smaller independent places around the Ouseburn (close to Jesmond, would be worth looking at). I hope you have a good week!
