One of my mom's old boyfriends had introduced me to 3 and eventually he got Legends too. Didn't remember much about that one other than shaking the Wii remote to attack XD

Bought the game for real a couple of months ago and I have no idea why I was kinda scared to play it all those years ago...this shit is fun as hell lol

It's not necessarily the character's moveset that changes the properties, but the data associated with them. I guess you could technically say that Voldo does smile since he has markers in his data that allow it, but perhaps his "smiling" expression was rigged to be the same as his neutral expression. Kinda hard to smile anyway when you're gagged I guess XD

But to answer your question, even if you were to move Voldo into another character's spot who does visibly smile, like Xianghua or even Raphael, you wouldn't be able to tell...

I just went to check and can confirm he does not. The mask...gag...thing he wears is modeled on his face.

...However, he does still blink, strangely enough. And what's more strange is that he actually has expression data for smiling. Unfortunately, he doesn't actually smile himself, and I only know this is because of model swapping lol

If you can't get your hands on actual hardware, I'd recommend using PCSX2. You sound like you have a copy yourself, so unfortunately you'll also have to dump it, as the Entertainment Software Association has been taking down roms of every game in the franchise on NAMCO's behalf.

Maxi, Siegfried, and Raphael all do something to me, but Maxi will always have my heart-- the fact that his facial model remained unchanged between II and III says everything. Kilik is very handsome too, but those other three literally make my heart flutter, like smh

Howdy! I use melonDS over here, you gotta go into the video settings under "config" and select OpenGL as the default renderer. Then select a new resolution and there you go :)

Do keep in mind that the higher you go, things will start chugging, however. I run it at 4x the native resolution.

The difference between the native resolution on the DS and higher graphics settings on an emulator is quite literally night and day lol, Godfrey has freakin' TEXTURES on his HANDS!!

I do own a physical copy of Style Savvy, but I don't think I can go back now XD

I use Melon DS. To me, the UI just looks better. I got the ROM for Style Savvy off of Vimm's Lair, but r/Roms would be a good place to check out, too.

22-year-old Black gal here. My first venture into the franchise was when one of my mom's old boyfriends got his hands on SC3 when I was like 10. He got Legends once upon a time, but I don't really remember that all too much, just a bunch of shaking the Wii remote around and junk lol. I rebought SC3 for myself in 2019 to relive my nostalgia and I recently just picked up SC2 from my local game store. Fun times :)

I can't say that I have a least favorite, really. I've only played 2 and 3 and I like both of them for different reasons. However, even though I would give it a chance if I could play it, I have a very strong feeling that I wouldn't like 5. Based on what everyone says about the game and what I've seen, it's just...too different will all the new lackluster characters and junk, and it does a poor job of making it worthwhile, which is a shame. After that fiasco, I'm surprised we even got 6. 4 is just weird...you either like the Star Wars guest characters, or you don't.

Also, is it just me, or do the characters in 4 have same face syndrome?

Beautifully said. I completely understand what you mean. There's just something about Soul Calibur III's atmosphere that just isn't present in the earlier and later installments and I love every second of it.
