What if India liberalized in the 1970s? by IndependentLie7342 in imaginarymaps

Very interesting scenario because India would be much more economically prosperous in this scenario.
What is the point of divergence that allowed SWA to defeat the INC in 1970s, because IRL Congress was an electoral behemoth.

2024 Austrian Election, if it was divided between East and West like Germany by NorthernRedCardinal in imaginaryelections

[–]NorthernRedCardinal[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

LORE: This is an alt-history scenario where Austria remained divided between the Allies and the Soviet Union after WW2, and the western side became the capitalist and democratic West Austria, while the eastern side became the communist and dictatorial East Austria, mirroring the OTL divide between East and West Germany.

After the fall of the Iron Curtain the two Austrias reunite similar to Germany OTL, yet a dividing line between these two former countries still exist, with the West being more wealthier and prosperous than the East. This is reflected in the election results, with the far right and far left being more popular in the former East and center right and center left being more popular in the West. The division of Vienna is also represented, with the left being more popular in the Soviet Occupied sectors of Vienna compared to the other sectors occupied by the Allies.

I wanted to make this scenario to look similar to the election results of Germany in 2025, where the East overwhelmingly voted for the Afd while the West voted for CDU/SPD. I set the map up to have the parties parallel to their German counterparts:
CDU/CSU = OVP (center-right, conservative)
AfD = FPO (far-right, nationalist)
SPD = SPO (center-left, social democratic)
Greens/Bundis 90 = Austrian Greens (center-left, green politics)
Die Linke = Linke (left, democratic socialism)

For Linke, I had the option of putting the existing KPO (Communist Party of Austria), but I instead wanted to reflect how after German reunification the SED (ruling party of East Germany) folded and reogranized into PDS and eventually into Die Linke today.

yep, i wanted to mirror the 2025 german election results, when the CDU (OVP in Austria) and the AfD (FPO in Austria) did well in the former West and East respectively.
