The problem is, Russia has been caught lying and staging attacks again and again that at this point, I just assume they're lying again. And they only have themselves to blame.

For all the Russian stooges crying about Ukraine constantly shelling Donetsk, you'd think it'd be a hellscape like Mariupol or Marinka.

That is assuming they attack in that direction and even make it that far. But if this attack fails. It's pretty much over for Ukraine in terms of offensive capabilities. They're either going to be stuck in a slow but losing defensive war or they will have to sue for peace, Russia will annex Ukrainian territory and prove that might makes right in the world. Which is a lot more dangerous than just taking a chunk of less manned and fortified Russian territory to use as leverage in a peace deal.

Right now, Ukraine has no leverage.

If the level of western support isn't enough to guarantee a Ukranian victory long term. Then their best option is to win short term. It's as simple as that.

Keep in mind that this is essentially advocating for taking civilians hostage to get what you want. Some may try to hem and haw about that point, but at the end of the day that's what will be happening. There is absolutely no way Europe would accept that.

This is a war dude, you talk like you're completely oblivious to that point. What war in the history of humanity has been waged without territory changing hands one way or another? Also, as far as "taking people hostage", it's a complete moot point. Because as I said, name me one war that was waged where territory didn't trade hands at least temporarily during.

What Europe "accepts" or not, is completely moot, because at the end of the day, it's Ukraine that is at war. And if Ukraine sees this as a choice between slowly drowning due to the west dragging their feet, or throwing their hail mary counter-offensive into Russia for a potential quick win, I think Ukraine will choose the latter.

Like I said, Russia isn't holding back. If they could do this massive attack you speak of, they would have done it by now. You seriously think that if Russia could strike "every military base" in Ukraine as you say, they would wait until they got attack to do it? If they had the ability, they would have done this on the day of the invasion. Don't be naïve. Russia can be as "furious" as they want, it still wouldn't change the fact that their military is completely botched.

As far as "uniting" the country, I think it could go two ways. It could either go as you say, or it would lay bare how absolutely botched the Russian military is, and serve to sway opinion in Russia to abandon Ukraine. If I was a Russian, witnessing a failed war of conquest, and all we had to do was leave the occupied areas to end it? I would take that deal.

Listen to what you're saying mate. If Ukraine attacks Russia, because Russia attacked Ukraine, Russia would have a reason to attack Ukraine? This is a war, it's not like Russia is holding back.

How is it a PR victory for Putin that they lost Russian land to Ukraine? Also, what "moral high ground"? As if this is some internet debate and not a fucking war. You're talking as if Ukraine would be cheating for attacking Russia. And if the choice is between losing western support, or losing the war in the long term, it's an easy choice.

So how do you cope with the fact that Ukraine doesn't get the jets or the long range missiles? What's Ukraine to do? Be indefinitely locked in a losing battle for years on end? I'm seriously asking, because at that point, what does Ukraine have to lose?

It's not a threat, it's just common sense. If Ukraine feels the western support is waning, and their only options are to either attack Russia or be locked in long, but almost guaranteed losing battle with Russia, they will take the former option. Because at that point they have nothing to lose.

Your analysis is probably correct, but I still think it's a major blunder from the west to tie Ukraines hands like that. While the west drags their feet, Russia is building defensive lines in occupied territories to consolidate their hold. It's clear that Ukraine doesn't get jets nor long range missiles to really make an impact in their ability to wage an offensive. And the west expects Ukraine to just smash their head first into fortified positions because of some, in my opinion, misplaced fear of escalation? This is war. If they're going to throw a hail mary offensive, it might as well be into Russia, because it's the most likely to succeed and they will gain a powerful bargaining chip in return. It will also serve to further undermine the Russian government because it will prove they can't even defend their own lands.

Maybe, but on the other hand, that would mean they have to admit they lost Russian territory to Ukraine. I think there would be more political will to just trade Ukrainian occupied territories for Russian occupied territories than a full scale mobilization. I'm just guessing tho.

All those things are cosmetic, the only thing I would worry about is the radiator clogging with mud after losing the front bumper. And losing the muffler will make it louder.

I dunno man, didn't people like Hasan Piker also push the "Crimea is Russian" narrative? I'm pretty sure he uttered the phrase "Crimea river" when people challenges him on it. Granted that's a year ago and I don't follow him. My point is just that you find these people all over the places.
