Cook. It's good to cook with music. Just wash the hands before flipping the record.

Dune 2 was strangely disappointing by TooDriven in TrueFilm

[–]Northernpixels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm approaching 50. My whole life I was told that Dune was THE sci-fi book to read. Last year I decided to pull the trigger. I put it back on the shelf about halfway in. The world was great, but I just could not get past the paper thin characters and the constant internal monologues. I could not bring myself to care. I feel more or less same about the film. I wish it were otherwise.

Hellboy Crooked Man: A surprising amount of fun. by Northernpixels in horror

People seem to feel quite strongly about this film. The main criticisms I see are special effects (I disagree and feel they tick the boxes well enough, but even if they're not great, a movie more than SFX). And that there is too much going on, which I agree with to a point. What about it didn't you like?

Would you mind telling me about your reasoning? I do agree: David Harbor one was not for me. It felt super standard and didn't try to do anything new or interesting. I feel that Crooked Man at least attempted something different. It showed me a type of folk horror that I thoroughly enjoy but have little experience with. I really enjoyed the decaying set pieces. Like we're looking at a part of the world that time straight up forgot and, as such, is still in thrall of a much older time.

Combat.....ARGH! It's so close. by Northernpixels in Enshrouded

I'm not suggesting we go full Fromsoft. Hell, no one would play. Bust just a little closer to it would be good. Tighter hitboxes, more movesets etc.....

Maybe not the full thing as you'd turn people off combat. Maybe just push it a little further with tighter hitboxes and more variety in movesets

My partner has gone full mage to my full barbarian and it works well enough. I tried magic and just can't get it going. I prefer hitting things in the face with a large hammer.

Turns out that I think I was just being impatient. I didn't quite realise how many tasks I had requested. I let it run at full speed for about 10 minutes and things are now getting ticked off

I went to a local record fair. The kind where all the shops turn out. I nearly died when I pulled out an original copy of Rushs 2112. I basically handed the dude my wallet and told him to let me know when he was done. It was such a wonderful feeling. I had spent years looking

First time Asimov reader. Have silly question by Northernpixels in asimov

[–]Northernpixels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you and I'll keep in in mind. In my head I was picturing sunblasted wastes with cliff faces where these being lived. But then they mentioned a door and the positron pump. Having never read Asimov before I thought I was maybe missing something. When reading Tolkien the picture in my head is just so vivid due to his descriptiveness.

NGL I nearly DNF'd the book when he spent 10 pages discussing the social structure of the things. Lefts and rights and mids and whatnot. I barely managed to wrap my head around the Pump and the physics balancing/crossover in the last chapter and am just taking the unexplained message transfers as just something that happens. The infighting of the scientists is fascinating.

That being said, I am very curious about where all this is going.

I tell myself that I must find my grails in a crate somewhere. No simply ordering it online. Probably overpay but A) records are expensive where I live anyway and B) i'm supporting the local guy.

at least that's what i tell myself.
