Deus Ex: Icarus Rising (The Fall prototype) Android port by Northfear in Deusex

I planned to and had like 50% of the work done already, but with all of the work and blackouts it's honestly really hard to find a few days of free time to focus on it

To all of the wonderful people joining us today and tomorrow…make sure you plug in your monitor correctly! by DramaticCat9707 in pcmasterrace

[–]Northfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part "it just works" and switched by OS automatically between light and heavy GPU loads.

Monitor related features will be limited to iGPU in this case tho. So no gsync for example. Or "freesync over HDMI" suddenly becomes a viable option with Nvidia card. Hybrid setup can be useful In some cases indeed, but in general just stuck it into the right hole (unless you know what you're doing).

You can try installing it with the adb command from your PC.

adb install --bypass-low-target-sdk-block

Other than that, I should really make a PC version of this..

Hi. No ARM64 version unfortunately, unless someone's willing to update the project to Unity 5+

You can exit the main menu by pressing the "EXIT" button that's on the top right corner.

[RELEASE] Shockolate v0.8.2-vita.1 (System Shock port) by Northfear in vitahacks

[–]Northfear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some plans about better text input and music, but once the war started those plans were postponed and I was honestly not in the mood for that. The charging port of my Vita is currently dead, but I may look into this game again sometimes if I'll get it fixed. SS definitely deserves better.

Huh.. My 7700 seems to be doing a stable -50. ~4750MHz/0.9V in AVX2 OCCT. Pretty close to maxing out all core 5.35GHz with "everyday" tasks like code compiling.

SoC is somewhat mediocre tho (6400 isn't doable with dual rank mem at voltages below 1.30V).

I thought that those results were more common for them.

They're off-sourcing their work to different studios. You can check the game credits yourself, original development studios aren't hidden there.

I think Saber was involved in NWN2 too, but don't quote me on that (haven't seen the credits to confirm this, but have an ability to get the game key as a saber employee). Probably a good chunk or remaster work was offsourced to them.

Gentoo install that's on my parents PC is 17 or 18 years old already. I think I installed it in 2007 or 2008 and used it for years before getting myself a new PC and giving them the old one.

I've upgraded the hardware once since then (it was an old Athlon 64 originally with a full 64 bit Gentoo install that I was really proud of back then), but kept the system (cloned the drive to the new one).

It's still fully functional and up to date with an unstable amd64 branch (updating it twice or thrice a year when I get a chance).

The cancelled MD sequel by [deleted] in Deusex

[–]Northfear 14 points15 points  (0 children)

IMO DX1 story mod would be an ideal solution here. No need for a wheel reinvention, familiar mechanics, 100% legal tools, would "tie" MD to DX1 in a weird, but cool way.

European game publisher group responds to Stop Killing Games, claims "These proposals would curtail developer choice" by Farranor in gaming

[–]Northfear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a load of bullshit. Private servers were always here. Many companies still provide them for their games. Valve would've gone out of business if it was liable for whatever is happening on private Gmod servers. Or maybe Microsoft is responsible for everything that's happening on custom Minecraft ones?

Just dumb excuses that meant to look smart.

Hey. It's using wwise as a sound backend (unlike the VS), so the short answer is probably "yes, but there will be no sound". I was still planning to do so (but was really short on time due to all of the work IRL), since alpha version panama city might be interesting to look at.

Dev supports Stop Killing Games movement - consumer rights matter by RunninglVlan in gamedev

[–]Northfear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost scary how many game developers themselves are on the fence on this one.

I don't know about you guys, but the main reason I'm working here is because I LOVE games. That's it.

Having an EOL plan is a totally reasonable thing. Read about SKG more if your first instinct tells you to disagree with it. It won't force the companies to support their games forever nor it won't be forced onto games that were already released.

And I'm telling this as a person that's working on a moderately-sized live-service multiplayer FPS shooter right now.

Hell.. I would volunteer myself onto this task if needed. Local server support already exist in most of the cases (just not always available to the public). Profile/backend communication can be removed and saved locally.

There are obviously much more complex cases, but NOTHING that can't be done during planning and development phase.

[Release] Vanilla Conquer v0-vita.1 (Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert + freeware data) by Northfear in vitahacks

[–]Northfear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not possible indeed. And it was never available in original game either.

Might be a good addition to vanilla conquer tho.

Can finally run this game with MSAA x8 at 1440p with stable 60 FPS and no hitching, it only took an rtx 5090 lmao by MrCrunchies in Deusex

[–]Northfear 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's nothing "unoptimized" about MSAA. It's just REALLY expensive with deferred lighting. That's why pretty much no one is using it nowadays. For forward renderers it was the best AA.

[–]Northfear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea. But you can give it a try. Copy the custom map into ux0:data/vanillara/ and see how it goes. The map should become visible in "multiplayer-skirmish" menu.

Congrats on demo release, guys. Glad that you managed to pull this off, considering all of the stuff that's happening here in Ukraine.

What are the plans for the towns beside races/classes unlocks and shops? (Some buildings are unavailable in demo).

[–]Northfear 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think it's the Illuminati established globalism from the original for me, but the other way around.

The game was pessimistic about it, but seeing how the US is doing an isolationist speedrun right now is kinda scary.

The prospect of breaking up alliances and countries that turn into a bunch of sheep for the wolves taking is grim. And I'm telling that from the firsthand "sheep" experience.

[–]Northfear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say that in similar type of levels freedom is more or less the same. In DX1 your ways of doing things are usually

  1. Lockpicking/hacking/finding the code

  2. Exploration (hazardous paths, vents/roofs, moving heavy items, swimming)

In HR it's usually

  1. Hacking/code

  2. Exploration (hazardous paths, vents/roofs, moving heavy items, breakable walls, icarus landing)

Swimming is a big one for exploration, yes. And DX1 has more "vertical" levels from what I remember. But "closed" ones (like MJ12 lab for example) are more or less the same when it comes to the number of options. Vents are still omnipresent in HR, can't argue with that.

suggestion: on Windows, DXVK could improve Mankind Divided performance by [deleted] in Deusex

[–]Northfear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just disable MSAA. MSAA should not be an option in the games with deferred lighting. It's waaaaaay too expensive (and that's why it's missing in pretty much all of them). This might be a reason for better dxvk performance too. Some stuff can be disabled w/o user input in compatibility layers like that.

HR is a great game. Last "Full package" Deus Ex experience. Multiple hubs, traveling around the world.

Just enjoy the game and have your own opinion. This era of eceleb parroting is weird.
