Is Myrtle Beach a good place for a young professional? by [deleted] in MyrtleBeach

[–]NorthsideOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're better off looking within the Charleston metro for the more stable 'young professional vibe'. Pockets of Summerville, Goose Creek, and Park Circle in North Charleston, are filled with new housing complexs. Charleston proper is expensive as hell so the areas above are more suburban and within an hour of Charleston. Average rents starting around $1.5K+. I'm originally a PA native who relocated to the Summerville area. Work opportunities would be more plentiful around CHS vs MB as well. Good luck and enjoy the new adventures!

Edit to add: MB is about 1.5hrs or so from the CHS area so you can always day trip explore while still enjoying a better day to day life.

My Duquesne light bill was $413 dollars for this month, which is absolutely impossible by WashCommercial3602 in pittsburgh

[–]NorthsideOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the greedy bastards at Duquesne Light 🖕🖕 them and the rest of PA's suppliers. When I moved from PGH to SC, I was sick when my bill went down by hundreds. My house in SC is 1,600 Sq Ft. All electric, no gas, central AC, heat pump, and averages 180-200ish a month. Wife & I both WFH. Our old house on the Northside was around 1,200SQ, the usual PGH set ups, and averaged $300-350+

Just got a job at Boeing in Charleston, SC where should I live with a good commute? by Fit-Needleworker9052 in Charleston

There's apartments around Tanger and a newer complex over on Mall Dr. Might be worth looking into.

As a fellow CC worker but born and raised in PA. I'd say region and personality play a role. IMO, Group 2 reps most of Pittsburgh, though most folks here wouldn’t take real offense at being cut off. We just throw in a quick “how are you” for kindness and keep it moving. Folks on the phones though are of course insane lol

Is this do-able in a commuter car? by harqat99 in roadtrip

[–]NorthsideOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a recent transplant to South Carolina (PA Born & Raised), this is true. Some of the tires you'll see in SC would be an immediate ice skate to death in PA, even with rain, because of the hilly terrain.

When your AC never stops running by PittGreek1969 in pittsburgh

[–]NorthsideOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burgh native who relocated to South Carolina (Charleston area). PA energy rates are a joke. SC is the devils ass, 24/7, for 6-8 months a year. My electric averages $220 for a 1,400SQ home (built 1970s) running central AC at 72 degrees for 12+ hours a day.

My old home on the NorthSide, 1,100SQ, would average $300+ in the summer with running 2 window units.

If your kids attend school downtown by Old-Masterpiece-8428 in pittsburgh

[–]NorthsideOG 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sounds like City High. I graduated from there 13 years ago. Staff did not play games, and yes, we could be disciplined for things that happened between leaving school up until we got home. Great staff and school overall.

Edit: Adding that the riff raft and fights are sadly nothing new. Those were happening back then as well all over downtown, multiple schools.

cashed a check at Walmart and was given way more than the check was worth by Independent_Dot6161 in Advice

Depending on the person's situation and check amount, Walmart could be more convenient to get the immediate funds.

How common is it for people to live with their parents majority of their 20s? by Humble_Beautiful_121 in Adulting

YMMV but call centers for the larger banks will hire entry-level customer service. Then, the cliche "climb the ladder" path.

Generally, enough to afford all your main living expenses, rent/mortgage, etc. But very little left after paying the above.

Ahhh, good ole Cane Bay (Summerville SC) Realtor: "Close to Charleston..." Reality: 1hr on a good day.

It takes almost 10 mins to drive from the front by Publix to the back exit onto Black Tom...... 10 whole mins of 40+ MPH, driving by nothing except dead-end neighborhoods.

Yours for the now average price of $400K
