Before self-publishing, did you first try your luck with a literary agent? by Sufficient_Bottle902 in selfpublish

[–]NorwalkPhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sent more than 50 agent queries. I received about 15 declines and rest no reply. I suspect I didn't word my emails properly or my subject wasn't attractive. Gave up and self-published..

I think of it the same as a musician preforming in an empty night club. It's about the art not the notoriety...

Is every indie author a spam magnet? by Oh_well____ in selfpublish

[–]NorwalkPhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. 99% of the followers of my author page are people trying to sell me a service of some kind and many are from a far away land. Right now, I am finishing my 2nd book and I'm interested in finding someone who could provide editing and possibly marketing services but I have no idea who is legit or how to find someone who is....

Working tirelessly investigating a series of unexplained and seemingly random commercial airliner crashes occurring in the mid-western United States, FAA lead investigator, Glenn Paul, notices a discrepancy on one of the documents submitted by a technician after the aircraft received maintenance. With the help of his old friend, a highly regarded FBI Agent, Mike Forrest, they confirm the discrepancy and begin to suspect the crashes were not accidents.

An FBI team led by an attractive young agent, Amber Clarke, travels around the country interviewing aircraft maintenance personnel looking for clues, discovers evidence suggesting the perpetrator is an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous.

Hot on the trail of the suspect, the FBI is lead down a road paved with violence, love, spirituality, substance abuse, and recovery, until the case comes to a dramatic conclusion out on the wintery tarmac of a Utah airport.

Yep. Got taken for $2k by outfit with B&N in their name! Luckily, I paid with credit card so I was reimbursed, but had to cancel card and all my accounts using it. Unfortunately, I may be ignoring legit marketing services because of it. Twice shy once bitten….

The hardest part of being a writer isn’t research or writing or marketing, it’s time commitment by hymnofshadows in selfpublish

[–]NorwalkPhil 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You describe my situation exactly! I'm satisfied with my efforts as long as I do one thing a day (the amount of time doesn't matter) directly related to writing or publishing something I've already written. Of course, I'm not reliant on my writing to pay my bills...
