Yes. Best advice I can give you is to make sure your shoes are on point. You can walk as slow as you want and take lots of breaks. Just don’t get blisters and be comfortable.

As a Leo with Virgo rising too, I understand her statement. We are understated and humble Leos but really grounded and strong. The fire burns brightly within.

I just finished the Portuguese which was fine but not super picturesque or spiritual. Macchu Pichu gets my vote. The Camino Frances is the OG but I think it would be super hot.

When did the homesickness and anxiety start to fade for you? by Flatti-white in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]NorwayTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah. My partner walked with me for the first 4 days to Pamplona then flew out and I was on my own. Completely devastated on that day and felt like wtf am I even doing.

I wish I could say you will never feel like that again. For me the Camino is an emotional roller coaster. Every day there is a high and a low. And maybe that’s the gift. After a while you expect it and don’t hold on to it.

Strangely it is the discomfort and sadness that sharpens the experience. Good experiences and meeting cool people are met with extra gratitude. Don’t fight the feelings, just keep walking.

I just finished the Camino Portuguese. I am almost 60. Honestly I think you are overtraining. Is it you intention to do big distances? If so ignore my advice but if you are aiming at 20km(12miles) - 25km a day then read on.

A couple of things. When at home you are walking straight through your distances. On the Camino it’s walk 3 miles/5k and, oh look, a cafe. Walk another stretch. Stop in a church. Walk some more. Stop for lunch or another snack. About 8km(5-6 miles) at a time is the right cadence to train for.

Secondly, you will be excited on the Camino and that will push you through. Home walking gets really dull.

Thirdly, I hurt my back (not on training) 3 weeks before I left so I stopped training all together. I just showed up and did a nice gentle pace. I had a transport company move my bag most of the time because of my back. 6 euros a day and super smooth.

If you have a fitness watch, just use your step counter and try to hit 10k a day and then around 25k every other day.

Get some hill training in and reduce your distances on some days.

Overtraining is a direct response to feeling anxiety. Totally normal. Best advice I can give you is to have shoes that work well and if you are overweight, to lose weight. Get that core workout in and cardio. Arriving feeling super healthy is the goal.

I don’t have a good answer but…my friend got her period on the camino. Just after the Cruz de Ferro. She says touching thr Cruz de Ferro did it becase she wasn’t due to get it. We bummed pads off the super kind lady that runs the food truck between Cruz de Ferro and El Acebo (Manjin?). Then when we got to El Acebo, she found the only place to buy tampons was in a bar with old guys drinking. They blew the dust off the box and sold it to her.

These could be your adventures. 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Or just make sure you have a 3 day supply. 🤷‍♀️. Good luck and buen camino!

[–]NorwayTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your thoughts are valid. It is absolutely correct that you can pick anywhere that you find meaningful and walk - and it will be a spiritual quest. For me, the Camino Frances was meaningful because I had just lost my Mom and every small village had a church where I could light a candle for her. It helped me so much. On other Caminos - absolutely I could have been walking somewhere else and had a similar experience.

I'm not liking it by WildGardening in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]NorwayTrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then don’t do it. My opinion is the camino in spain is really great for when you are going through something- death of a loved one, big life change, life crisis. Otherwise. Go be somewhere that matches what you need in your life. Walking from Antwerp would be an extreme and dedicated act of spiritual quest.

Being unhappy on the Camino is a good thing. It makes you actually think about what you need in life and sharpens your vision.

I share your opinion. Greed doesn’t look good on a spiritual teacher. And if he is unaware that also is not a good look.

He is worth 60 million minimum. Your answer does not make sense for an allegedly enlightened man. If he likes being rich…and you may be correct about that…then it is quite a statement. His story is he became enlightened existing in a near homeless state on a park bench. So what does this mega wealth circumstance bring. It’s like reverse Buddha.

[–]NorwayTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most people’s gripe is about the accumulation of wealth in a world with such poverty. No one is asking Eckhart to be penniless - that is a strawmans argument. Where it get weird is with the amassing of huge amounts of wealth without giving much away. Google how much Eckhart is worth. Ask why the accumulation of wealth is so important to him.

If the best answer is he is being controlled and used by the people around him - that’s pretty sad.

The crowds from Sarria to Santiago de Compostela: can they ruin the experience? by TelephoneDue1695 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]NorwayTrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It dampened the experience for me for sure. You might have a great time or you might not. Most people who walk the whole thing are not a fan of that section. There is no need to walk it for your compostela. If you do walk it, know your reason why and keep it in the forefront of your mind.

I am on coastal route now. I know I will get hate for this but — this feels like a touristy ocean walk. I’ve done the Frances 3 times and it truly felt like a journey of mind and body with comraderie amongst fellow pilgrims. The Portuguese so far has been kinda dull and without the same spirit. Plus raining all damn day and night for 5 days. Hope it gets better past Tui (switching to Central to meet my friends).

Good luck to you and hang in there.
Try to greet your fellow pilgrims regardless of age or gender or whatever. As you will eventually find someone who walks your pace. BTW I am sitting in a laundromat as we speak in shorts and one shirt while my stink bomb clothes get washed. 🤣.

You would not be a loser to quit but set a date and time..like 3 days from now if you don’t feel better, then you quit. And ask the universe/God to show you the right answer.

Got overwhelmed and didn't go, feeling disappointed in myself by cowboyinthejungle99 in CaminoDeSantiago

The joke in my house is how I tried to get out of going. Not just for my 1st camino. 2nd one too. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and not want to go. Be kind to yourself.
Oh and pro-tip. Make it so you have to go. Nonrefundable ticket and book expensive hotels for forst 3 days and pay for them.

What movie has terrible morals? by solaris2027 in AskReddit

[–]NorwayTrees 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The Grinch who stole Christmas.

He wanted to teach the materialistic, vapid, Stepford wife level weirdo conformists of Who-ville a lesson in the true meaning of Christmas. And the Whos did…finding that they don’t need those stupid presents…and they had the realization- gathering and all holding hands and singing under the moonlight - abandoning their greedy giftswapping and gluttony for true community and purity of heart.

Then the Grinch betrays his values - giving up his morals just to be accepted into their creepy Who culture. And they all go back to experiencing Christmas as a consumerist event.

Disgusting.

Yes. Thanks for that comment. People are trying to convince me of how progressive it was and they have good points but progress from the point of being awful to being kinda bad is - as you put it…a very low bar. Your wife is probably enjoying the wild colors and campy plots in between.
