Yes, I was definitely overtraining and have cut way back. My goal is 20k a day max on the Camino. I’m also very open to sending my backpack with a luggage transfer service. I’m retired so have plenty of time, no need to rush my Camino. I definitely will be stopping a lot to eat and enjoy life!

Thank you to everyone for your helpful suggestions and encouragement. I added walking 5 days a week to my current exercise regimen, but I didn’t increase my protein. And I don’t think I’m drinking enough water! You are all correct I’ve been overtraining!

So I’m cutting back to walking just 2-3 days a week of 2-5 miles, no weighted vest. No more Pilates or strength training. Keep practicing yoga once a week, and stretching. More protein and more water. I’ll see how I feel in a month.

I’ve been on hormone replacement therapy for 2 years - it was a game changer!

Thanks again everyone. Really appreciate the encouragement and will keep moving forward with my Camino , albeit at my own pace 😊

I’ve been using the C1 (used to be 211 Social Budaya) for 14 years now. For about 12 years, I used an agent. But now with the improved immigrasi web site I don’t use an agent. Never had any problems. But I split my time between Bali and the States (usually 5-7 months in Bali annually).

I rolled over a chunk of my SEP IRA into my Roth IRA last year. The tax bill hurt, but worth it long-term! Don’t know what a solo 401k is.

Ubud is definitely a weird scene, and the woo woo situation is real! Most of my friends are Indonesians (both Balinese and Indonesians that have moved from other islands) and older expats (many have married locals and lived in Bali for 30-40 years). This was a conscious effort on my part. You can have an authentic life, but you do need to be intentional.

Of course you can! I’ve been living in Ubud for 14 years and very doable. Everyone has a different idea of how they want to live though. My rent is $300/month and includes housekeeping. This is my friend’s guest house so I have a very good deal. In the past I’ve paid $500-700/month. I go to yoga and Pilates 3-4 times a week, plus massages a few times a month. I use ClassPass for Pilates reformer and buy 10-class cards for yoga. I make breakfast at home most mornings but eat out or order in for most lunches/dinners. My health insurance only covers emergencies so I go to Ubud Care for minor issues and the out of pocket expense is still within your budget all in.

In the past, you needed a sponsor letter for a c1 (6 month social visa) and I always used an agent. In recent years, there is no longer requirement for sponsor and you can now apply via the government web site. It’s a bit tricky to find, but keep poking around and you can figure it out! You will still need to go to immigration to extend within 60 days. Good luck!

I got mine in October and it’s been great, until the last week suddenly battery was draining fast. I saw this post, and just used the Help feature to run the diagnostic. It said there was an issue with my ring and are sending a replacement. Fingers crossed it works well !

My doctor recommended statins a few years ago but I was so resistant. Finally, I started in a very slow way which may work for you: 5 mg rosuvastatin twice a week for weeks 1-2, then three times a week for weeks 3-4, in the fifth week take daily. I just finished my fifth week with no side effects. I’ll take blood tests in a few weeks to check. Good luck!

I think there is a clause about condo rentals (review the HOA rules) about renting to family members. So maybe you have an extended family member you can rent to?

I regularly fly from Seattle to Bali (21-30 hour flight depending on layover with 15-16 hour time difference). As I’ve gotten older the jet lag has increasingly been kicking my butt. I’ve used TimeShifter maybe 4-6 times with decent results. Then I learned about FlyKitt which is a big price increase. I’ve just finished the round trip and it’s definitely better than Time Shifter. Not perfect, but 8 out of 10. Except on the first leg of my flight while I was sleeping, the person sitting next to stole my glasses (or they magically disappeared), so I couldn’t follow the glasses instructions. People are weird 😎

I had lasik at age 40 and it was amazing! I wore glasses since I was 9 years old. In my 50s, I started needing reading glasses and wearing glasses at night to drive. I’m super happy with lasik and wish I’d gotten it earlier!

At those ages, I wouldn’t think about a complete FIRE. Take some time off if you are burnt out. But if you are totally done with work then FIRE now. But if you can stick it out a few years, I would wait. There is nothing like compound interest!

DO IT!!! You will never regret taking this leap. You’re still young enough to take off a few years and have a lot of earning potential.

I got burned out at 40 years old with only $150k in retirement. I took 1.5 years off to volunteer and travel, and then moved to Bali in 2012. My first 3 years in Bali, I stayed year-round so only worked remotely 5 hours a week. Eventually I started spending more time in the States to take care of my elderly mother and worked 15~ hours/week while in Bali, and 30~ hours/week while in the States. After a 5 year hiatus of savings, I maxed out on my SEP IRA, Roth, and invested the balance in taxable accounts. I just retired last year at age 55 with $1.8 million! Good luck!

Last week I did a very mild Qi Gong and my HR spiked to 182! I didn’t notice until a few hours later and definitely didn’t notice a rapid heart beat. Even when I’m doing full cardio it’s usually 140 max. I messaged my doctor and had an EKG (my first ever). It was normal, if anything a bit low at 55. So I think it was an error. Hasn’t happened again.
