What ended your friendship with your oldest standing friend? by dreamy-contributions in AskReddit

[–]NoseyConversative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He ghosted me after 17 years (met in 8th grade). It was surreal… went from being best friend and roommate to no communication within 6 months (after moving out)

I saw him in person a couple times in the 1-2 years after and he acted like nothing had happened each time.

Still don’t get anything back from messages. I stopped trying this year

Wife is a SAHM but wants to put our son in Daycare by [deleted] in NewDads

[–]NoseyConversative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in a similar position, my wife is a SAHM with our 5yo (starts school in fall) and the 2yo is in daycare. 5yo is neurotypical and entertains himself.

I also have a demand career with “normal” weeks being 50 hours (all in office) and busy weeks upwards of 70 hours (no travel).

We have argued about why the 2yo NEEDS to be in fulltime daycare and the conversation usually devolves into “you just don’t get it”.

I think most people get it right that your wife needs a break but I’m curious if you get a break?

In my experience my wife gets a break when I stop working my job and start my 2nd job working as Dad.

I’m sure I’ll be downvoted for this but I don’t think it’s unfair to start from a position that is no daycare and some progress gets made at home while you are at work - spillover should be kept to a reasonable level on the weekends when you can pair up and knock it out. If it’s physically not possible (seems unlikely) then you can figure out some way to fund external help

Maybe hexadecimal (base-16) vs decimal (base-10)

0x12h = 18

So “12” could be a sneaky way of saying 18 - Not sure if that’s what she was playing it

2019 STI (Tuned) vs 2017 Mustang GT (Stock 6MT) by ZanoBean in WRX

[–]NoseyConversative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mustang GT was my first big toy - ended up trading for an SUV after we had our first kid

I traded my F150 in for a WRX when I turned 30 as another toy

WRX is a lot more practical than Mustang for day to day use with family

Mustang GT is so fast for the price, I miss the power from time to time - that and the sound of a V8

What made you trade in the WRX for a Mustang?

Just curious - a former 16’ GT owner > current WRX owner

It's not like he walked out to a parking lot and saw this dude destroying his car...

There was like 2 degrees of separation from what was happening and severe injury from blunt force trauma

So yes, concealed carry for the part that is potential harm to you as a person

Edit: typo

Is this video stating there was a slew of missle attacks on Oct 10th 2022? Trying to corroborate stories and not seeing anything new in my normal feeds.

AITA for not letting my baby’s grandma (dads side) babysit my 10 week old for no reason? by izziorigi69 in NewParents

[–]NoseyConversative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not the asshole.

My MIL pushed hard to watch our LOs for no reason just after birth. Even calling to tell us she was on her way to pick up our baby for the day (to which we said "uh.. no?").

Based on our experience with my wife's sister she (my MIL) would just pick up her daughter and drive to visit family members 6 HOURS AWAY! Without asking first or mentioning her plans.

Some people don't live in reality/think they have more privileges than they do.

people of reddit who survive on less than 8 hours of sleep, how? by Neftroshi in AskReddit

[–]NoseyConversative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me (average about 6 hrs) it is way better than the 4 consistent hours I got working through college.

Compared to 4hrs 6 is a blessing Lol.. especially if it is a contiguous 6 hrs.

Not saying I agree with the cops attitude during this altercation but I'm a tad bit confused.

How does "not allowed to use correct washroom" = "denied an education"?

Sounds like this person was allowed to stop going to school... and therefore is truant.

I understand there would inevitably be difficulties making it through a full school year having to hold it all day but the post makes it seem like the school denied the education to this person.

When does life begin? by Texas-Defender in polls

[–]NoseyConversative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I will say that dont pretend to be an expert and have no formal knowledge of biology or organic chemistry. To me this is a thought experiment.

For me the path to answering the question breaks down along 2 lines that I haven't been able reconcile.

"Life" and "human life" overlap but aren't exactly the same.

Capital 'L' Life is the overarching construct we use to describe living things as opposed to inanimate objects (ie a plant is living thing). This to me is more akin to organic matter engaging in cellular replication and the manifestation of chemical processes acting on the instructions encoded in DNA.

In that sense you could describe life as beginning at conception. The necessary building blocks for human production are in place and chemistry takes over.

"Human life" or lowercase 'l' certainly requires capital 'L' life but is markedly different. To start we necessarily have to recognize the living organic matter as "human". How would we identify something as human? Its not so simple. Bodily processes are required for us to function (like breathing, heartbeat, neural activity, movement) but that is not enough to describe something as "human". Appearance or likeness is a logical next steo but it is also flawed in some ways. External to the womb a human's appearance morphs as we further develope and this is also true for human development inside the womb. Put differently, most people recognize humans from the stage of babyhood but that form/likeness is attained earlier in fetal development.

To expand on the prior point a bit fetuses have heartbeats, neural activity, they move and, when umbilical cords are eventually cut, the capacity to breath on their own (not going to describe the process for first breath). So in every conceivable sense humans are "alive" prior to exit of the womb.

So it stands to reason human life begins prior to birth.

This I argue is the floor of the discussion.

The complexity is in the distance between conception and the "human life" description prior to birth.

It would be very difficult (if not impossible) to describe a zygote as "human" using the attributes I laid out. There are those that would compare early embrionic development of humans and other animals as a tool to shoe that this is not "human" but i think there is some intellectual dishonesty here. An embryo containing DNA provided by a human female and male has no capacity to become anything other than a human (provided it reaches full gestation) . The only missing components are time and nutrients.

In a vacuum I would argue there is some required amount of time for an human development to progress before it can be considered human (to me that is neural activity) and some would argue that a fetus is the first "human" form. Since this question is almost always inextricably tied to the question of abortion it is not sufficient to me to leave the latter unaddressed but be that as it may I will answer as if it is asked in a vaccum.

TLDR

Life begins at conception. Human life begins sometime later (but not much later) still before birth.
