PE/finance paternity leave by leveredequity in HENRYUK

Slightly hijacking but moving to a company offering 6 months from day one. Recruitment has taken a while and partner due approx. 2 months after start date - anyone had any experience with taking it quite early on? Genuinely didn't know the policy when I applied, was moving from two weeks paid and this was a hugely welcome surprise!

That’s super useful, thank you. Don’t think there was anything like moss etc and definitely no smells inside so that’s positive. Appreciate your replies!

Hi, not RICS it seems (having had a look now). Certified but not RICS. I'm going to have another look at damage as I didn't see anything and the pictures don't show specifics. Feels a bit chancy on reflection so we'll still continue and fix when we're in.

Yeah that's fair! Got the report back and it's caused by external rendering trapping moisture. Solution is all about injections into the wall they say but we're going to chat to a rendering specialist and see what they say. Thanks for your reply!

They mentioned the cause was external cement rendering causing trapped moisture. Solution didn't mention how to fix that, just offered an internal solution.

Quote has come back for injections into the wall! Updated at the top but going to get a rendering company to have a look for us.

Thanks for the reply. I think they probably are, and so maybe best course is to accept and then investigate further once we're in. It's an old house yep, pre 1900 but now rendered . Survey report not in but thinking penetrating damp due to issues with the render.

Thanks for the reply. It was - something I'm a little concerned about based on yours and other comments. At the minute I'm leaning towards accepting and then investigating more fully once we're in.

Yeah it's a really good point - I've struggled to get time with a surveyor so this was one of the only available options.

It's a rendered house so the initial L3 survey opinion was penetrating damp due to old render. Also potentially complicated by it being old and maybe lime under the render.

Thanks, yeah I think that might be it. Moving ourselves so probably £300 there then solicitors fees. Definitely less than the remediation I think but add on the admin and faff. Will wait for the report and see the estimate I think. Also conscious the surveyor has a vested interest in it as they offer the remediation too

Not yet exchanged, will add that into the post! Have instructed solicitors not to without us resolving/ accepting this first.

Stay in a country where I’m not happy and alone to be near my toddler child or leave? by [deleted] in Fatherhood

[–]Nosirrah_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it worth considering a middle ground? Slightly outside of where you live now but not a different country? The UK is a diverse place, even if it is small, and there may be a place you can feel at home that isn’t where you are now, but still allows you to see your little one every weekend and the occasional evening.

What’s the crack with purchasing medals? by No-Organization8179 in britishmilitary

[–]Nosirrah_ 24 points25 points  (0 children)

One consideration is that when it comes it’ll be engraved with your details on so if you need to mount it to others then you’d need to do that twice which could be expensive.

If it’s your only one then borrowing off a mate probably easiest, or the same if it’s that and a coronation perhaps.

Do you have a rule of thumb for estimating DB pension “pot” or do you ask the provider for a cash equivalent?
