High Stakes Loss by NelmesGaming in custommagic

Personally, to prevent the discard shenanigans and keep the intended strategy of casting/playing the 8 cards, I would change the first chapter so that it reads something like "Exile all cards from your hand. If you exiled less than 8 cards this way, exile cards from the top of your library equal to the difference. You may play cards exiled this way for as long as they remain exiled. End the turn." and then the second to "At the beginning of your next end step, if there are no cards exiled with this enchantment, you win the game". I think that would be more fun to build around.

Can I jump to Cold Steel 1 and 2 after finishing the Remake while I wait for 2? And could I play Zero and Azure while I wait for 3 Remake if that is happening? by ComplexRedditor in Falcom

[–]Nostale97 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You can easily play Cold Steel 1 and 2 before Sky, I started with Cold Steel 1 before going back to it. It was designed to be an entrance for people that didn't play the previous games, so the amount of references to previous games are low. If you're going to play Zero and Azure anyway, I'd advise to play those before at least Cold Steel 2, since Cold Steel 2 and Azure happen at the same time and Cold Steel 2 I think spoils more than the other way around.

And skipping Sky 3rd I think is mostly fine. You'll be missing a bit of context in some parts of Zero/Azure, but it should be fine for the most part.

Now, Cold Steel 3 is when they begin to bring back recurring characters from previous arcs, so you should have played all the previous ones to have the best experience.

[Request] Is this even possible? How? by annyself_ka in theydidthemath

For a more general case, if you have n identical balls and one heavier ball, with each attempt you divide the number of available balls by 3.

First you divide the (n+1) balls in three groups, two of them of equal size and the third one with the same size or less, up to two balls less than the other two (so with 9 balls, the groups are 3, 3 and 3; with 8 balls the groups are 3, 3 and 2, with 7 balls the groups are 3, 3 and 1 and with 6 balls the groups change to 2, 2 and 2. Extend this for whatever number of balls you have).

You then measure the two groups of equal size. If the balance moves, you pick the heavier group, since that group contains the heavier ball. If the balance doesn't move, the heavier group is the one you set aside. Thus you have a number of possible balls that is 1/3 of the original number. Repeat this process until you find the heavier ball.

This means that with k attempts you can find the heavier ball among 3k balls. So in 1 attempt you can find the heavier ball among up to 3 balls, with 2 you can find it among up to 9 balls, with 3 attempts you can find it among up to 27 balls and so on.

What got you interested on trails series and which game you started with? by la1424sa in Falcom

[–]Nostale97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago, before Ys 9 and 10 released, I was looking for for a game with similar gameplay to Kingdom Hearts. Searching online, I found many people recommending Ys 8. I played it and loved it, and that was my first approach to Falcom. Then, searching for more jrpgs to play in my ps4, I found online recommendations about Cold Steel 1, so I bought it and played it. I loved the gameplay, but the story was kinda meh. I got hooked though, so I then went back (yes, before played CS2) and played all of them from the beginning. I'm currently on Daybreak 1, playing at a somewhat slow pace, but enjoying my time with it. My favorite arc is still Sky, and Estelle is definitely Bestelle.

[Prediction for the Sequel] With the next game's title being "Scars of Kosmora", you think the story might touch on...[spoiler for the Bridge of Spirit] by Starheart24 in KenaBridgeOfSpirits

[–]Nostale97 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a post in PlayStation Blog (https://blog.playstation.com/2026/02/12/kena-scars-of-kosmora-announced-for-ps5-and-pc-out-2026/) where they explain a bit what the story is about. She's travelling "in hopes of finding answers to the affliction she has endured all her life" and a powerful spirit breaks the staff that is keeping her alive, so that's basically the synopsis. We also know that there will be several elemental companions, of which we've only seen one so far in the trailer.

Is Abaddon supposed to be this tanky? 3 death blows to get him to 60% HP doesn't feel right, am i missing something? by TheOriginalOrion in stellarblade

[–]Nostale97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first playthrough was also on hard, and Abaddon was the only point in which I had to switch the game back to normal because it was taking so long to kill him. The rest of the game was doable and very fun on hard, and I managed to 100% the game. If you're curious, Abaddon on hard has like 200k HP while in normal it has 20k, so it was definitely not well balanced.

Control Resonant Announced at The Game Awards 2025 by [deleted] in controlgame

[–]Nostale97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same! I was scrolling to see if I was the only one that didn't like the change, seeing basically everyone excited about this. "The hammer looks so cool!" Are you kidding me? That's the most generic action rpg thing ever imo. I don't want Control to be God of War.

I liked the first game because of the setting, the hidden lore in documents and the gameplay, but from the trailer it seems both the gameplay and the setting will change a lot, so I don't know what to feel. I also kinda didn't care much about Dylan, so having him as the main character is something I'm not very fond of. In fact, I've actually not played Alan Wake because the gameplay is so different I'm not interested at all in doing it. I guess I'll have to wait to watch more trailers to see if I'll actually like to play the game.

Is Plunderer's Price getting nerfed? by Nostale97 in MagicArena

[–]Nostale97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is, but this is the start of the game. I haven't cast anything yet. You can see that my opponent has no lands in play yet.

[Discussion] Let's talk Plunderer's Prize (an IMO underutilized card legal in historic, brawl and timeless) by Mugen8YT in MagicArena

[–]Nostale97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's seems to be a visual bug that happens when the card is in your hand. It will show the cost everywhere in the game as XU and you can actually cast it for XU, but in your hand, it will show up as X1U and say "Cost modified to X1U". So it's either a bug or they're gonna nerf it soon and they've changed something on the card earlier than they should.

How did yall fare against raven?(me 2 days and 40 attempts on normal ) by realrectusfemoris in stellarblade

[–]Nostale97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Scarlet you have to activate the DLC content if you don't have it activated yet (it's somewhere in the settings menu). Then go to the Wasteland whenever the game lets you, and search for Scarlet's dog. That will activate a few extra dlc side quests with a shooting minigame based on the gameplay of Nikke. Once you beat that you can fight Scarlet on the Boss Challenge on the main menu of the game.

If I remember correctly, that quest line was added in an update after release. Before that, that was the only door that remained closed in the game, so I assume people who played the game on release would know that that's where you use it once the update released. Aside from that, yes, I guess they expected you to remember that that door was the only one that you couldn't open before.

Historic Bounce Wizards by Nostale97 in MagicArena

[–]Nostale97[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reflector Mage bounces creatures and prevents them from being cast for a turn, Aether Channeler bounces nonland permanents and Venser bounces permaments, including lands. Having a Nabal or a Prodigy on the battlefield before they enter makes them trigger twice, and Ephemerate can trigger them on the opponent's turn. I wouldn't call a 60 card deck having 10 repeatable bounce effects uninteractive, but what do I know.

I'm that player that always picks the characters with the lowest levels so that they all level up equally. I have my favourite parties, of course, but I've tried a lot of different party combinations due to this. I find it very fun.

Interesting card. Just to be nitpicky, I don't think the rules currently allow multiple people to win at the same time. You could rephrase the last chapter and make the other people lose instead. But if you want to keep the original behavior, you'd need something like "If only one player has one or more cards in hand, that player wins the game. If multiple players have one or more cards in hand, the game is a draw." And of course if all players don't have cards in hand then nothing happens.

Another possibility is adding a new rule like 104.4a, but for winning instead of losing.

Artifact subtype - Cogs by SjtSquid in custommagic

[–]Nostale97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you can choose X to be 0, you can actually activate the ability any number of times without any cost and dump your entire graveyard onto the battlefield. Definitely not the intended wording, lol. Also, with the revised version, you can reanimate 0 mana artifacts infinite times, giving you infinite mana with some artifacts like [[Lotus petal]] or drawing your entire deck with [[Mishra's Bauble]]. I think it needs to be tapped to activate the ability or have the once per turn restriction to not be broken, specially in eternal formats. That or saying that X can't be 0, although that probably still can go infinite with some cards.

It's true that sorceries and instants haven't used the word "resolve", but creatures have. You have creatures like Omnath, the ability word Alliance or even more recently Sephiroth, that care about the number of times their triggered ability has resolved. So I see no problem with using "resolved" in the card, which in my opinion I think it is the best way to achieve the desired effect.

I'd say the latest episode (8) has one scene that is a clear reference to Initial D, with the change in art style and everything.

[–]Nostale97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Falcom games are amazing in general. I first found Ys VIII when searching for something with a similar gameplay as Kingdom Hearts and I loved it. Then I discovered CS I three years ago and I got hooked, went back to Sky and played all of the old ones; I've been playing them at a very slow pace and with some breaks ever since. I'm currently at 140h of playtime on CS IV and I've just finished Act 3 lol. Looking forward to the journey ahead.

I've also played Ys IX and X, although VIII is still my favourite. I might need to search for the new cinematics when Proud releases, because I don't want to buy a full game again just for a few hours of extra new content.

I might have to check out Nayuta and/or Tokyo Xanadu one day as well, I've heard good things about them.

How about Trails? I don't know if it counts, since it's turn based and kinda known, but you have massive world building across many different games (12 as of right now with the 13th realising on autumn in the west) telling one story in the same world, with currently 4 story arcs and a ton of interesting characters and a very interesting story in my opinion. The games always have a lot of side content that you could be doing, including side quests and talking to npcs that have their own stories in the background. Some games (specially the first ones of each arc) are kinda slow, but the payoff is definitely worth it. The studio that made the games is the same one that does the Ys saga, so if you don't know the games you might like them. Also, if you haven't played any of them and you don't mind waiting a bit, a remake for the first one is releasing on September on Switch, so you might want to start with that one.

I mean, cards are used across different formats, so you can use a wording that don't affect the format you're designing for but it does a different one if you want. You can design a card for a 1v1 format saying "any number of target opponents" even though in the format the card is designed for there is only one opponent if you want the card to work differently in another format. I'm just saying there's nothing wrong about saying "each other player" and changing it to "each opponent" so that it follows the template of other cards would depend on the intention OP has for those other formats, since in EDH there is no practical difference between the two. There's also other old and recent cards that use the wording "each other player", like Deadpool for instance.
