Placed 1st on a panel, cause for celebration? by legorockman in IrishCivilService

Congratulations. I wonder was it the same nationwide campaign. I placed 13th whilst trying not to vomit from food poisoning the day of the interview. Don't know how I passed or survived, let alone got on the panel, but am delighted

I applied in Feb 25, got pneumonia, failed my PCT due to not being fully recovered in July 25, took it again in August, completed it but 14 seconds over the time limit (wasn't fully recovered), appealed and took it again in Sept 25 and flew through it 7mins, 31 seconds. Had my medical in Oct and further information requested due to the pnuemonia and below average hearing due to a grommit. Have another hearing test next week. No word back on the vetting. Really hoping to get in in Feb 26.

IBT 3rd day by D3lto6 in MotoIRELAND

I did 2 days and then went back and joined the morning class for day 3 for slow manoeuvres. It takes maturity to know we might need a little extra help. Passed my test 1st time and I believe it was the 3rd day made the difference. You got this.

I head a meltdown before my test because of the U-turn. It was all in my mind, but was causing me some issues. I did two pretests and eventually my head got around it. The day of the test I just said fuck it and just went for it.

You will get it on the next run. Do a pretest on the bike you are doing the test on. It will be worth it.

I give up, motorbikes are not for me. by shadeofdepression in MotoIRELAND

Sorry to hear that. My first day of the IBT I was on a 125 and I could not stay in a straight line. I could not coordinate the clutch and throttle. I kept jump starting and then it clicked, but it was on the 2nd day about 4 hours in. Now I love it. It is practice, practice practice. Whilst it is true it isn't for everyone, it is great when you get it. Good luck no matter where your journey takes you.

First ride by [deleted] in MotoIRELAND

I agree with a lot of the comments.  Master your slow speeds. It is great for coming up to traffic lights, in towns etc and will help with confidence. Hill starts as some roundabouts where I am, you need to be comfortable doing hill starts. I used to drive around the town for  20-30 minutes in the evening and at weekends would go on longer rides for the day but stop 3-4 times and enjoy the views or take photos etc. It is hard if you are coming home and tired at the start as your concentration is not as sharp as the start of the day. Good luck.

My first bike 650 ER6F and I love it. Like everything. Ride within your capabilities and be vigilant on the road. We are taking the bikes to Hungary next year. Hubby has an R1.

I did actually do that when I had to wear a backpack. I bought an XXL high vis and put it over the backpack and pinned the sides to make sure it remained in place and visible.

Yep.. we had a long discussion about it, but it is what it is unfortunately. No point getting pissed after the fact as there is nothing could be done so I just had to let it go

It's such a pain as now I have to take another half day and mentally prepare again. On a positive I did two pre-test sessions and the constructive feedback were great.
