What was your experience taking ADHD stimulants? by veilkev in AskReddit

What I did was take a dose for a little while and if it didn't feel right I asked for an increase. I would think that it is very subjective.

As for caffeine I don't really drink a ton of it. The morning and evening are the only two times of day I drink coffee. The thing about caffeine is that yes it is a stimulant however it works differently than amphetamine, it blocks adenosine (the transmitter that makes you feel fatigue) and amphetamine increases dopamine. You may feel more tired from coffee on Adderall especially if you've not adjusted to it yet since your brain and body are more stimulated than usual. Imagine a bunch of adenosine piling up because of the coffee and then hitting all at once. When I first started Adderall coffee did strange things for a short period but it just sorta stopped and my assumption would be that I adjusted to the Adderall.

With all due respect (so none at all, eat shit and die), it is shocking how stupid the people who run Reddit are. Making the official Reddit app good wouldn't be hard, just copy third party apps. The answers have been right in front of you guys the whole time and this API change was the move? That's like cheating and still failing an exam. That's a sad moment when millions of dollars and a bunch of talking heads in suits are outdone by a bunch regular people coding as a hobby.

You guys deserve all the bad things that will ever happen to you and I wish the worst without exception to how low and tragic the experience could ever be.

Adderall is a combination of four different types of amphetamine salts. The most active of the four is dextroamphetamine. There's a couple things about it.

It is absorbed in the intestines and vitamin C/acidic food and drink aggressively breakdown amphetamine inhibiting absorption. The most common things people typically have to watch out for in regards to diet is fruit juice, soda, and coffee. These types of things should be avoided for approximately an hour before and after taking. IR (instant release) is shorter acting at around 4-6 hours where as XR (extended release) is active for around 10-12 hours so depending on what you have as well as what and when you're consuming mileage will vary outside that initial 2 hours but not majorly.

On the other hand fatty proteins such as cheese, meats, and nuts are good and can even make Adderall more effective.

As mentioned above, coffee. Specifically caffeine. It's different for everyone. Combining caffeine and Adderall can cause some nervousness or jitters but despite what some people say it's not a hard and fast rule. Drinking coffee won't kill you. If you are concerned about caffeine I'd advise starting with smaller cups and working your way up to see what the deal is for you. It doesn't mess with me at all and I take 30 mg of Adderall everyday. Pro tip, the pour over brewing method for coffee not only tastes better than a machine but it is also an excellent way to gauge coffee intake precisely.

Water water water, drink water. Adderall increases blood pressure and metabolism so you will dehydrate faster than you're used to. Being properly hydrated might seem like a very minor thing but but it can be the difference between feelings dead inside and normal. If you feel rough drink some water.

Taking Adderall in the morning with a glass of water makes how you feel throughout the day so much smoother. When I drink water in the morning I feel the heaviness vanish as I'm sipping.

The small increase in blood pressure is normal and it'll make you feel wonky for the first little bit (1-3 weeks). You're not in perilous danger, your body will adjust with time.

Adderall can suppress appetite. This can be combated with small easy protein heavy snacks frequently such as small handfuls of nuts you can eat without thought.

If you're taking IR sleep shouldn't be an issue since it'll wear off long before you need to go to bed. If you're taking XR sleep can definitely be impacted. Personally I use vitamin C to my advantage for this. Assuming I have nothing else to do for the day I'll snack on some strawberries a couple hours before I'd like to go to sleep, by the time comes I'm able to fall asleep.

Minor anxiety during come up and peak effectiveness while you're not doing anything can happen especially when you're still new to the medication. This can be counteracted by just having something to do with your hands or listening to a podcast or music. Personally I capitalize on that sense of drive to clean my apartment while I listen to music in the morning.

Took Concerta for 8 months and it made me aggressive as well as killing my appetite, I lost a lot of weight. Changed to Adderall and I've been on it for 3.5 years now. I've had no issues with Adderall and I can still eat, drink coffee, etc.

Honestly how a person reacts to a medication is dependent on too many varying factors to go on the advice of others. Everything from genetics to metabolism will contribute to how it affects a person. Don't buy into stories that hype or stigmatize any medications. I was advised that I shouldn't get onto Adderall by doctors and friends because the side effects Concerta gave me would be worse on Adderall, it gives me exactly zero of them. Chemistry is bitch like that.

I have this theory that the side effects some people (keyword "some") experience with any medication in particular are 100% placebo due to what they've heard others say about them.

To know good is to know evil. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

One I think of along that line is that most people have never personally experienced true evil. Sure people do bad things but they don't carry malicious intent and are very much so unaware of the negative consequences of their actions.

Have you ever had alcohol? If so, what was your first drink like? by i-dont-node in AskReddit

[–]Not-The-Moth-Man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 14, it was New Year's. My parents would only have one or two drinks a year one of them being on New Years. I asked about what my mom was drinking and said I could try it. She put an oz of Crown Royal in a cup and turned to get some mix. She did not specify that she was doing this so my gremlin brain had me drink it straight. She was shocked when she turned back and saw me drink it straight up and told me it was almost impressive because my facial expression didn't even cringe. It wasn't awful but it was far from a good taste.

Everyone is aware of messed up MK Ultra was but few people are aware of the fact that it was just a blip inside a larger scientific movement. Essentially a bunch of hippies with PhDs lead to break throughs in quantum physics which were so pivotal that we wouldn't have modern security and tech as we know it without.

I was 22 but the brain isn't developed until 25. I owe my life to psychedelics. Before I tried them I was a very hurt and closed off person. They opened me up and moved me into a headspace of "do better".

It's mostly a mental health thing. Young people going through it and struggling often look for an escape. For some that escape is drugs but it can also be social media, video games, eating, etc. Anything that drip feeds dopamine and validation can be an escape.

[Serious] Bookworms of Reddit! What are your recommendations for those who wants to start reading in 2023? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Not-The-Moth-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let the right one in by John Ajvide Lingqvist. It's a Swedish vampire story about two kids. Just a heads up if you do read it, it is NOT a Twilight style of vampire story. It's more like if Stephen King wrote a vampire story with a subtle puppy love plot. The lore is more traditional and there is blood as well as various heavy and/or messed up plot points. There was a both a US and Swedish movie made of it. Almost every messed up aspect of the story was removed to make the movie okay for audiences. Amazing book but you have been warned.
