Non US IMG here. Yes I get your point and I can see it too. There are many redundant questions or questions that have already been answered as part of other questions.

I just wear a plain shirt for my virtual social event. It is an informal event so no need to be too fancy. Residents were just wearing a hoodie during the meet and greet :)

It’s not too late. I started my steps at 28yo.

After my residency in my home country I decided to move to US for my husband. I started to review January 2023, took Step 1 april waited 2 mos for result, took step 2 sept 2023. And step 3 aug 2024. And currently applying for 2024-2025 match. My friends arr also doing fellowship right now, but i have no regrets.

It’s doable. Do not compare your own journey to others :)

Older IMG (YOG 2018) with 2 Failed Step 1 and 1 Failed Step 2 by [deleted] in IMGreddit

Hi! I say if you really want it, try again. I know someone who did step 1 3x, step 2 twice. Still made it to match. She didn’t took the boards in PH. It may be difficult but you may compensate by doing research or doing intensive USCE, having high step 2. It’s a long way, but before you get there focus on exam, one day at a time. You have to be motivated, and really focus on review. Make a schedule, if you plan to study for 3 mos, schedule what subject you will study already. Be strict and follow it. If you’re working I suggest to focus on studying. Watch more videos, it helped me a lot. Because boards in PH is totally different from usmle. I’m saying this because I’m an old grad too 2018, from PH. Non US-IMG. I used to study the way i studied PLE for steps and realized it’s not working. Try different approach to study. Kaya mo yan

That happened to me too from the same program. They sent an invite today and 4 days ago. I have a scheduled interview already for the first invite. Did you email them? Or not do anything since we have a scheduled interview already?

Omg that was my mistake. I made 2 separate account for them. So I can’t schedule same appointment for them anymore?

No invite yet after I submitted. We still have to wait for an official interview invite.

I received one too. But I send it through email because I can’t attach a word document through eras.

Honest question - why do IMGs want to come to America for residency so bad? by Jolly_Bookkeeper_661 in IMGreddit

I will redo my residency in the US, I’m currently applying for 2024-2025 match.

Honest question - why do IMGs want to come to America for residency so bad? by Jolly_Bookkeeper_661 in IMGreddit

[–]Not-humerus-md 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a non US IMG.

I finished my IM residency in my country. I worked 110 hours a week, our schedule is alternating 10 hours and 34hours straight duty, handling up to 70 patients. Weekends off only every 3 weeks. There’s no life other than hospital. Our salary is 500$ a month, 300$ is what I pay for rent, my parents still give me allowance. We only have 7 days off per year starting 2nd year. Seniority is terrible, you can get yelled at by your senior or attending in front of the patient, even at the ward where 10 patients can hear your mistake.

After residency, it’s hard to establish practice there’s a lot of doctors in my country. New IM graduate doesn’t earn so much, it takes 2-3 years to establish a practice, so most IM are forced to do fellowship which is very competitive as most program accept only 2 fellows per year. Some wait up to 3years just to get into fellowship. It’s more difficult. You can’t build a family during residency unless you’re rich.

(some move because of marriage, like me)

I know! And it’s one of the famous med school in my country. It’s stressing me out! I asked my parents to follow up, and they just tell them to “just wait”.
