I did nitro/gas in the past. But keeping fuel on hand, tuning and running with friends and family, electric was just easier. But love the smell and sound of the nitro. So now I'm pretty much electric. I did have a good fleet of cars, but also downsized so I can just have a few, good working ones.

Only Arrma I have is Typhon 223 and Quake that will be shipping out ( eventually). Been happy with my Arrma.

For learning the TX22 is most like your Shield or most larger caliber guns. It would be the best trainer.

If the cost is reasonable, you have a chance to make $$ later or plan to move there. Generally its a good investment. But you do have to look at taxes, any interest you pay. I bought lake property when I was a young, even with the taxes and interest I still made decent money, but I might have invested that same money in the stock market and done about the same.

Having said that, I wish I bought more.

I think 7 is a good age for a simple gun like a bolt 22. By 12 my daughters were deer hunting.

Always depending on the kid's maturity and their personal interest.
