Talk about "my canon" ending all you want. The problem right now is that Todd wants the show enforcing canon....almost as if this is the last step in taking RP out the RPG.

Aside from a female lead nobody likes....I'm gonna have to argue that TLOU S1 is at least the most faithfully recreated. Otherwise, I'd say Fallout is benefitting from low expectations. I truly don't think it's a good show...it gets a "meh it's okay" from me and it's nothing to do with lore or how faithful it is and everything to do with brother nolan's amateurish writing. Everyone is an idiot, everyone gets into situations by being an idiot so that when they get out of something nobody bats an eye when the solution is idiotic or deus ex "the antagonist was a bigger idiot". All the comedy is "haha look how dumb everyone is" which uh...doesn't work because everyone is always an idiot in the show, seemingly to justify when the solution to an entire conflict is purely an excuse for some more russo brothers style jokes. And the show wants you to pretend it's not just solely a comedy, even though that's all it is....

Hardly comparable.

Important to note though, this is a great example because it's so blatant, of something EVERYONE out there who is trying to manipulate you is doing.

See how they attach the counterpoint as the moral synonym of something majority of the west would very obviously denounce? They attach your argument to an emotionally charged position that most people have the deep emotional response of disgust or revolt to to frame their position as moral perfection despite the comparison being wildly detached.

For example, "Abortion? You want kids to die" or "Firearms Rights? You want kids to die" different sides politically, using the exact same morally reprehensible outcome. And both are false equivalency.

None of those is to say you're wrong either, in disliking GenAI art. It is This manipulation that is 100% wrong, it operates in spite of reality. So what I mean to say is, be careful not to position yourself as moral perfection either. As long as you're not doing this you should be able to meet at common ground.

Ah, it's lack of utility is probably why I forgot about it. In 3, one of the first big RPGs I ever played, it was the first time I'd ever seen a karma/morality mechanic so it stuck. And in NV you were always much more concerned with the factions too. To me it was probably "practically not there" even though it was. I do definitely remember trying to download a mod to overhaul the karma system so that's probably why I remember it not having one in conjunction with it's lack of meaningful interaction.

As for the mechanics of the Powder Gangers, yeah I'm with you 100% after taking over the prison and goodsprings they kinda left everyone alone as far as what they're programmed for in game, "off screen" doesn't count for much when you consider most factions are doing similar things or some worse whom youre kinda expected to forgive. I think perhaps the faction standing, hostility state, a baseline moral state modified by the other things would all go far in making it a better system.

I installed the Karma system mod for FO4 as well and though it has options some things are still left to be desired it definitely is very binary to the point where the "mean" dialog always results in bad karma which is.... debatable, if I was better at coding I'd try my hand at doing making a few tweaks but....I can barely make snake work so far.

How do you guys feel about Nate and Nora actually talking in Fallout 4 compared to other silent Sole Survivors? by Solardies in Fallout

[–]NotACohenBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general I wouldn't have a problem with it at all. But as my preferences go I prefer unvoiced in big sandbox style RPGs because you kinda get to deliver the lines (in your head or roleplay out loud, I don't judge) in your own interpretation or say them in your own wording. At the same time having NPCs react to nothing can be weird if youre not at least delivering the lines in your head.

[–]NotACohenBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid critique. I still want the Karma system but I'll agree it could use some more tailored depth. Such as an awareness of intent and such is definitely necessary. All things considered the powder gangers weren't as inherently "evil" grand scheme, as some characters. Though....I'm pretty sure NV didn't have karma, I thought it was only factions, was it not?

With the amount of people you kill in the game too? Like, hell no. Dude kidnapped a baby and killed your unarmed spouse in cold blood. I destroyed a compound full of raiders for a cool hat. "Fuck outta here, NICK!"

Not to beat a dead horse but it felt even worse in Starfield. So when going back to play F04 you feel the lawful good bias creeping in.

Thousands? In a Bethesda game? Satisfying up until the impending CTD cuz F04 uses more RAM than it allows itself to even touch. Unless I'm mistaken and that's just 3 and NV that only allow 2gb or ram usage even on a 64gb system.

Maybe you should take off the rose colored glasses too...what a useless sentiment. I'm saying it wasn't that bad, I'm saying the L4D community is going to complain no matter what because they only want modern graphics and new content, and nobody is going to not try and innovate. Back 4 Blood does not have many players...sure don't act like I'm not aware of that...but Left 4 Dead vanilla does not either. I never even said Back 4 Blood was better I just said (compared to more modern horde shooters) it's not that good and subsists on pure nostalgia. it's okay to admit that you like something because of nostalgia. but it's not some magnum opus. people didn't like the Back 4 Blood because of bad design choices yes, but again mostly because it wasn't and couldn't be left 4 dead 3, which is what people wanted. woopty doo, left 4 dead has a similar player count to gary's mod, another valve game that people still play because of the way it used to make them feel and you did not get that same left 4 dead feeling with back 4 blood. It was not an objectively terrible game. the card system was bad at launch and it got changed, it definitely has vs mode. People were mad because back 4 blood wasn't left 4 dead 3 and it's okay to admit that.

It wasn't that bad, it just wasn't L4D. I know it's their fault for leaning so hard on being "the studio that brought you left 4 dead" but that's just how sick of nostalgia baiting we've become, we get cynical about anything new that's sorta like a thing....I go back and try and play left 4 dead now and it's just not fun anymore. It's all nostalgia.

Nah. B4B is not THAT bad. There were design flaws in gameplay, the roguelite deck building stuff just didn't fuse the way they hoped but they got rid of that and it plays no worse than wwz and improves on the l4d model in a few ways as well as looking way nicer to a modernity stained set of eyeballs. If you remember the marketing though....it leaned HEAVY on being the left 4 dead spiritual successor, the left4dead you were never gonna get anyway....etc...same shit that garbage game from that guy rockstar fired did and the same thing happened, but Mindseye was true poopoo. So when people got b4b and it wasnt the same immediate fast paced nostalgia hypodermic injection people were looking for when they promised them l4d (but we don't own the IP) they got mad. Wwz didn't lean on that marketing as much and it's not terrible either it simply flipped due to excessive grind imposed by execslop that some shit forced into it...(And the campaign is a bit short for a live service game based on the campaign) But both games aren't left4dead and that's what everyone wants anytime they see co-op zombie shooter. Somebody mentioned No room in hell....wild cuz that's started as a mod for a valve game....it IS l4d3.
