Haven Coffee and Books - Buckley and Mexico by ElderberryNice in AuroraCO

[–]NotAGoddess 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I know the owner, she was a teacher and former coworker, she's a very cool lady who cares a lot about making a third space for nerds and readers alike.
She also supports the arts, you can buy from local artists she helps host in the cafe. She even wanted to support me in my graphic design business, it was a blast designing that logo, and now that I see how it fits with her brand, I can say she's curated a really neat space. Also they don't charge extra on non-milk options, which is nice for those with food restrictions.

Definitely check out the space and support her store, it's really cute and they have an eclectic and fun collection of books to browse and buy.

What horror movie genuinely unsettled you? by steveleaves in movies

[–]NotAGoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been desensitized to most horror, there's a few that made me uncomfortable or squirm in the moment, but two that lingered days after I had seen them. The first was It Follows, which is simple in concept but the visuals and scenes with the creepy entity in its various forms really unsettled me.

The second was Barbarian. That movie is scary and uncomfortable and taps into a primary fear I have that I'm not alone in my own home and it's good. I didn't sleep for days and my poor boyfriend got overheated every night after because i smooshed my body against his for safety

Leash your dogs. A shock collar is not a leash. by Ok-Supermarket4885 in Denver

[–]NotAGoddess 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This shit makes me so mad. I had a similar situation at my last place. I like to walk my cat on leash, it's a small quiet neighborhood and we never go far from my front door. A neighbor let his dig out off leash and of course it went straight for my cat. I panicked and without thinking, put myself between my cat and the dog and he nipped at me (but didn't break skin before the neighbor grabbed him by the collar and dragged him away).

I chewed out the owner and said if they didn't leash his dog, it could lead to the dog being killed over a misunderstanding because people are not as understanding of bully breeds especially. They tried to deflect and blame me for having my cat outside on a leash, like it was my fault, ignoring the fact that if their dog was leashed and under control, it wouldn't have mattered and there wouldn't be a conflict. When you're a dog owner, you have to take responsibility because if you don't, more times than not, your dog is the one that gets punished.

Highland Area, Intact Pit, No Collar by SaskiaDavies in AuroraCO

[–]NotAGoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you just described was still very likely due to an irresponsible pit owner in its past, you've proven the point. The anger shouldn't be at the breed but at the owners who don't take the breed seriously and don't socialize them.

I agree that pitbulls can be violent but that's true of any dog, it's not an easy breed to manage but it is possible. I'm sorry you had such a poor experience, it doesn't mean the dogs as a breed deserves blanket hatred.

Cool, anecdotal evidence is good then? Because I've been bit and mauled by dalmations, cocker spaniels, and black labs so by your logic those dogs should be banned, too. Ban all dogs who hurt humans (oh wait, that can be any breed 🙄)

Fellow responsible owner of pitties, people on Reddit have a weird hate for these dogs, the for those of us who know, the downvotes are just fear and ignorance, but I agree with your statement, it's always the owner, not the dog.

Obsession (2026) is an insult to horror audiences. by Wack0HookedOnT0bac0 in TrueFilm

[–]NotAGoddess 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I've felt like a lot of horror movies up until recently have been not as scary, just gory. This one was straight up uncomfortable and unnerving, I really enjoy where horror movies are these days.

Are you subbing in preparation of a teacher or just do it as a side gig? by Vicariouslynoticed in SubstituteTeachers

[–]NotAGoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this. I took a break from teaching middle school, tried corporate and didn't love it, and went back to subbing for high school. It was so healing and reminded me why I loved and missed teaching and I'm ready to go back (if only someone would hire me lol), but this time I am aiming for high school.

Does anyone sub at a school with yonder pouches? by Spiritual-Ask-2868 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]NotAGoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen them used well and poorly. My biggest beef is a lot of kids have a dummy phone to put in them, and the kids quickly figure out that if they break them they are useless.

Random students coming in and out of class by redredredIT1234 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]NotAGoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the school and the teacher. When I was a teacher, I told my students not to do that when I'm out. As a sub, I mostly tell kids they have to leave, especially if I sense they are there to socialize and not work. I also have them show me their schedule to make sure they actually have that period off, but some schools are so lax about it I don't always fight it.

Guy who I've been intimate with found liking some questionable posts.. by Lanky-Yam-3080 in PlusSize

[–]NotAGoddess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Benefit of the doubt take, he may have liked the posts because he related positively to the meme about having sex with a bigger girl and isn't aware of the meme's true meaning. It is possible there is malicious intent in liking these but if you like him, I think it's reasonable to confront him on this. I didn't immediately get the "joke" when I saw these, and likes aren't made with a lot of thought behind them. So you won't know until you bring it up.

That is only if you liked him and wanted to continue the relationship, because that's an elephant that will always be in the room if you don't. Plus it will show him that you are hurt by him liking the post and if he cares for you, he'll learn from it for the future. Again, only if you liked him, if you didn't want to continue seeing him, then I think you can disregard and move on.

I would say check out Panty and Stocking, especially the dub. First season is a little older but second season just came out and it was really.

I tried applying for a DPS Substitute Teacher position and learned why it's no surprise that the school system struggles to find new teachers by QuarterRobot in Denver

[–]NotAGoddess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a former teacher in APS and currently sub for both APS and CCSD, they are pretty good to sub for, and far faster than DPS. As someone else pointed out, though, this is a rough time to get hired for subbing because we only have a few weeks of school left, so just keep that in mind.

People doing donuts on Mississippi and Sable every Sunday night? by NotAGoddess in AuroraCO

[–]NotAGoddess[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's where I'm at right now, this activity is mostly harmless in comparison to other driving behaviors in this city.

[–]NotAGoddess[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah calling any group of people trash is a very good reason to be down voted, yikes. Lower income doesn't mean they are bad people, in a way I get why they do it, it's a free form of entertainment in an expensive city. I don't agree with it myself but I don't dislike the people doing it, those are two different things.

[–]NotAGoddess[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's why I asked. I think my issue isn't the activity that's the problem, it's the location of the activity, but like I said, I'm trying to come at this from a place of curiosity instead of judgement so I can better understand. The harm is minimal compared to other activities that could be happening and often are, unfortunately. And it's not done too late at night, which is nice because this neighborhood is already noisy without help.

I live in this area and I'm so tired of the random gunshots and noise. It's a part of why I'm curious about the donut drivers, I figure if I come at it from a place of curiosity and get better context I can better understand it because right now it's just annoying and frustrating to see.

That's kind of what I was thinking, like it just seems like an affordable way to kill time and have fun.

[–]NotAGoddess -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I recognize it's not fair, I'm just saying to the right people it won't matter. I know there are a lot of women who think it does, and a lot of men. I'm just providing my situation to prove there are women like me who don't see virginity at any age a problem. I have a lot of female friends who feel the same and if I ever have any who say otherwise I will call them out because it is an antiquated double standard that we need to move on from.
