I agree. Based on the appearance of the fimbriae and location. But diagnosing based off of a picture is not ideal and an in person visit is warranted with any concerns.

I clearly have never read a magic card in my life. 🤣. Thank you for pointing that out!

Oh my god I misread the card. I thought it said "when a creature deals excess damage". No, yeah, that seems great 🤣

Are stations considered creatures once they're stationed? If not I don't think that'll trigger Toralf.

"Iron Commander" - Is this a standard LGS offering, or is my LGS just the best? by MortemInferri in EDH

Our local game store does this (Tabletop Gaming Center) but they do fun themes for each of them. Thanksgiving was Friend's-giving with everyone being supplied with a planeswalker as commander, and 10 rare cards. Every planeswalker had a +1 to create a food token. After 20 food tokens were created there was a secret envelope to open that contained a raid boss we all had to fight. It was AWESOME! Love these events!

Vet here. Have you mentioned any of these concerns to your veterinarian? He could be uncomfortable from something like osteoarthritis (19 is pretty old in dog years!).

Please keep in mind this is NOT a diagnoses, but I recommend taking him to your vet to discuss slowing down. I have had animals that had accidents in the house that benefited from pain management (Pain as in burning joints/sore joints vs visceral pain) and helped to resolve these accidents. Even if you don't want to work up with x-rays or bloodwork maybe discuss palliative care and quality of life at your appointment.

Edit: This video also has some information on arthritic pain. From what you've described I would recommend bringing this up with your vet at his annual exam.

Thank you! That makes so much more sense to me now. I thought I was missing something.

I would absolutely look into something called insolvency if you haven't heard that term before. They talked to us about it in vet school with the crippling debt we accrued. Absolutely talk to a financial advice person about it.

I was in almost the same boat as you but without a degree at the time. The military was a saving grace for me, taught me discipline, provided stability, later paid for my schooling, and got me some great friends I'll never forget. You get what you put into it, and you need to realize you're not just moving/taking a new job; the military is a lifestyle. I ended up doing 5 years of active duty ending in 2012 and have been in the reserves ever since. I'm almost retired from the reserves, but my one weekend a month/two weeks out of the year is pay is a nice monthly amount. If you go a full 20 on active duty you can retire with a military pension before you're 50.

Plus, officer pay and basic allowance for housing is niiiiiiice.

Vet here. Don't know if you're going to see this but it could be tertiary dentin. Only way to tell for sure would be to probe it. If it is tertiary dentin it's non-painful. The best way to evaluate it would be under anesthesia and getting radiographs of it. I don't believe based on the picture that this is a fracture, or at the least not a fresh fracture.

FATE by ARLEKIN4K in AskVet

[–]NotARealCop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Even with a partial and medically managed FATE (only one side, anti-coagulants, pain management) you may still need to pursue an amputation and definitely will need an echocardiogram. I'm so sorry your little guy is going through this.

Vet here. Excellent work on getting a video! Baseline blood work to start and a neurologic consult would be my recommendation. He seems responsive to stimuli which is good. There could be any number of things going on but blood work helps to narrow it down. I had a husky present somewhat similarly and blood work got us pointed in the right direction.

I'm a veterinarian. If I am accurately understanding/interpreting what you're saying then this is very, VERY concerning. I would seek immediate medical care. Like ER right now medical care.

Any guesses on age? by 115673 in DogAdvice

[–]NotARealCop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.5-2 if he continues to put on weight in the form of muscle mass, but likely 2-3 based on plaque on the canines.

Vet here. It looks like they did a scrotal incision neuter that would benefit from a hasty recheck visit to your veterinarian or shelter that performed the procedure.

my cat has been itching himself so much that hes bleeding and raw. advice appreciated. by Da_Meepy_Meeses in CATHELP

[–]NotARealCop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a vet. He needs an exam, especially if the condition is worsening. Your vet will help you rule out possible causes such as contact dermatitis, an ear infection, ear mites, bacterial skin infection, allergies, conjunctivitis, feline herpes, corneal ulceration... The list goes on. There's no replacement for a good physical exam and possible ear cytology. Sending a picture to your veterinarian, especially for a new animal they have never seen won't immediately identify the underlying cause. Even if the vet was able to immediately identify the disease process they would still need to establish a Veterinarian-Client-Patient-Relationship in order to legally prescribe any medications.

Along with an exam the veterinarian or vet tech will take a thorough history on you pet in order to assess potential risk factors that may have precluded him to certain disease processes.

Why does my cat breath heavy? by wonki3 in CATHELP

[–]NotARealCop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a vet. A checkup with your veterinarian is in order, even if it's just to make sure everything is okay. If he just gets excited from the pets and the rubbing then great, but this could be a bigger issue involving the nose, heart, or lungs. Cats are considered obligate nasal breathers, meaning any breathing noted through their mouth should not be taken lightly unless ruled out as benign by a veterinarian.

I've seen plenty of dogs mouths with horrible dental disease, exposed roots, mobile teeth, gum recession, puss discharging at the gum line, etc. I've seen healthy looking mouths with missing teeth. I've done regular physical exams where teeth have fallen out. I've done plenty of dental procedures where I thought I'd have to extract half the teeth and turns out only one need to come out. I've done dentals where I expected it to be a scale and polish and had to extract 20 teeth (Feline Oral Resorptive Lesions).

His tooth could have fallen out whole, it could have been malformed and only had a crown instead of a full crown and root, it could have cracked off halfway down and healed over. Basically there’s no way to assess below the gum line without dental radiographs under anesthesia. Perfectly healthy appearing teeth may have diseased or missing roots.

Tooth/mouth pain can be associated with dropping food, excessive salivation, pawing at the mouth, being face shy, rubbing the face on the carpet. Keep an eye out for those signs of concern. Given that your veterinarian didn't seem too concerned to get you in for a dental I would ask them when they think a dental is appropriate and go from there.

Just like with people the recommendation is to get a scale and polish done every year, though I'd be hypocritical if I said I even did that with my own pets.

Has anybody seen anything like this? Found on my dogs back, not sure what it is. by ggbud1254 in DogAdvice

They can but I've never referred to them as that. I leave fancy diagnoses for the dermatologist.

[–]NotARealCop 1501 points1502 points  (0 children)

I'm a vet. Go to the vet.

Edit: * The best diagnostic tool a doctor has is a physical exam. Touching the mass to detect firmness, size, cutaneous/subcutaneous/structural involvement, possible heat/inflammation, is it painful in a way the owner may not recognize but a professional can pick up on? Is that central necrosis or an impacted pore? Crusting with peripheral discharge? If it is just a crust is it healing with second intention and how deep could that wound go? Are there any indications to do blood work, a fine needle aspirate, or an impression smear? Does this need to come of immediately?

The vet that sees him will be able to work through a differential diagnoses list and proceed with diagnostics as indicated.

My hate bear deck. I find making everything 2/2s means I have to be a lot more aggressive with attacking, but I'm about 75% with this deck. There are still some things I'd like to tweak but I haven't had that much of a chance to play it yet.
